Character
Description and History
Tyrion is a bitter, ruthless man. Despite his nature, Tyrion is a highly honorable man,
and sincerely believes that tyranny is the only method of ruling. While he is a harsh
lord, demanding only the best for the peasants under his boot, he is also a fair one, and
will treat any who dare raid his people as vermin to be exterminated. Not surprisingly,
bandits shy away from his lands.Tyrion was born in Cormyr to a wealthy noble. His
father, a member of the elite, was a harsh man, more suited to the wilderness and
battlefields than the subtleties and etiquette of the court. When Tyrion was 12, his
father led a band of settlers to the lands outside of Cormyr, and claimed a small estate
from some orcs that had overrun it. He then drilled into his son the right of the nobility
to rule over peasants.
Three years later, Tyrion left home, and met a woman whom he later wed. While his
father viewed the marriage with some disgust -after all, the young woman was from a
heavily tainted bloodline - he allowed it under the condition that Tyrion served in the
military. After all, the younger man had to see the peasant warriors to truly appreciate
his own worth.
Tyrion was a devout soldier, and was a ranking officer in the Purple Dragons. He served
for several years, until the Horde of Yamun Kahan invaded. While he was involved in the
war, Tyrion returned home to find that, in his absence, bandits and orcs had slipped past
the Cormyrean army, and slaughtered everyone dwelling in Tyrion's lands. The officer quit
his position in thePurple Dragons, and rallied the survivors among both his villagers and
old army units. It was sometime in this period that a captured Zhentarim priest converted
Tyrion from Helm to Bane, claiming that it was Azoun's weakness which allowed the tragedy
to occur. Tyrion heard the priest, and agreed with almost everything. The onlything he did
not agree with was the idea of assassinating the king. Bane smiled that day, for he gained
a devout follower with strength, and lost a fool. Tyrion left Cormyr, traveling west past
the Dalelands for several days before settling in a forested, hilly area. There, a long
with his followers, Tyrion began building an army from the despondant, bitter, and
hopeless. To make sure that no one questioned his authority, Tyrion had the priest that
converted him crucified. He later sent to the Church of Bane for a replacement,
apologizing for executing one who "would dare suggest that a knife in the dark is an
honorable way to despose of a foe!"
Surprisingly, the Church welcomed Tyrion Red with open arms, even adressing him as
"The Warlord." |
