Character
Description and History
Thorn is a very cocky, rather charming half-elf. His life as a
thief suits his roguish personality perfectly. While he is brave
beyond question and extremely fond of women, he does have a mean
streak and this can show when women, children or animals are mistreated
in his prescence. He is 6'1" tall and weighs 160 pounds, with
a slim, muscular build. He wears his reddish-blonde hair long and
has a neatly trimmed van dyke beard. (goatee) His hazel eyes are
the windows to his soul, appearing almost a bright honey color when
he is truly happy,(which has not been very often since his heart
was broken by a priestess of Lathander), becoming a deep smoky brown
when he is angered. He always wears black clothes, black high soft
boots, either black gloves or black leather bracers and a black leather
hooded jerkin. He wears his shortsword on his left hip, his dagger
on his right hip. And unlike most thieves, he is very proficient
with the long bow and whip. Thorn prefers to take thieving jobs
that challenge him, not just those that have a big payoff. He would
rather break into Blackstaff Tower and steal The Blackstaff's snuffbox,
than steal a million unguarded gold pieces. He is a very complex
man, while appearing to be care free and devil may care, he is actually
very troubled by the events of his past and tends to overcompensate
for his self-percieved shortcomings. It should also be noted that
while brave in all he says and does, Thorn does have a pathological
fear of being alone and a severe case of arachnophobia.
Thorn was born the son of an elven thief and a human cleric in
the city of Arabel. As a child he showed remakable dexterity and
agility. His father sold him to the Night Masks of Wesgate, to pay
off a debt he owed. Thorn was raised and trained as a thief, and
despite his innate goodness, became a remarkably skilled thief by
the time he saw his 21st winter. When he turned 22, he left the
Night Masks and traveled to Arabel to find his family.During this
time, he was captured by the Zhentarim and totured to reveal the
plans of the Night Masks. But (as he puts it) "a thief of my
skill is never held for long" Upon escaping, he resumed his
quest. When he finally found them, he was delighted to learn that
his brother Drax had grown into a giant of a man. Thorn took his
brother out adventuring with him and the two of them joined with
friends that they had made to form the Shadowriders Adventuring
Company. It was during an adventure with this band of worthies that
Thorn single handedly dipatched the Pit Fiend Tomorok, who has sworn
that he will return to Faerun and kill the half-elf. It was also
during this adventure that Thorn inadvertenly found the corpse of
his father, and claimed his father's sword as his own. This sword,
an elven moonblade, chose Thorn as it's weilder (after an INTENSE
mental battle), and greatly augments his natural skills with blades.
During the Time of Troubles, Thorn served as the avatar of Mask,
God of Thieves, for a short time. (he was the only thief of any
skill in the area where Mask came to Faerun. As soon as a 'more
worthy candidate' was found, Mask's essence left the half-elf. It
should be noted that due to the effects of Mask's essence, Thorn
has become more sardonic and sarcastic in his dealings with others.)
In return for hosting his essence, Mask gifted the rogue with a
unique magic item, the Ring of the Shadowlord, which greatly enhances
his skills as a thief. Thorn loves to roam the lands of Faerun,
which has earned him the nickname "The Wanderer" He was
once involved romantically with Alusair Obarskyr (now the Steel
Regent of Cormyr), but they are just very close friends now. Thorn
also has other friends of note, among them Storm Silverhand, and
Duman Kirag( who runs a tavern in Eveningstar). The Shadowriders
with very active during the Tuigan Crusade and more recently, during
the orcish invasion of Cormyr. Thorn has yet to meet his equal with
blades, even Storm Silverhand is hard pressed to match the rogue's
skill. Thorn prefers to outthink his enemies, using his blades in
unusual ways (for example, switching hands in the middle of combat,
switching from using his dagger in the usual style, to spinning
it in his hand and slashing with it.) It has been said (Often by
Thorn himself, but by others as well) that if Thorn and Drizzt Do'Urden
were to spar, the Realms would shake for a thousand years.
