Character
Description and History
Appearance:
Tall, fairly solid, athletic build, bearded. His hair has turned
a solid silvery-grey at the temples and streaking back along the
sides - a souvenir from a battle between his fellowship (the Alliance)
and a very powerful master vampire and his minions(see history),
handsome in a weathered, almost middle-aged kind of way.
Personality:
Friendly, outgoing and occasionally boisterous, can be somewhat
brazen/outspoken in disagreements and if he or his comrades are
confronted or questioned persistently about their actions,he tends
to become agressive, defiant,or even downright confrontational,
but he is a steadfast and devoted ally and can be counted on to
give others the very same loyalty, kindness, or effort they have
given him,no more and no less.Believes fiercely in individual freedom
and liberty, regardless of the individual's belief system, ethics,
or differing opinions and will respect it in everyone who will return
that respect;actively seeks out any hint of tyranny, oppression,
or abuse of power over the individual will, whether political/religious/etc.
and will try to rally the people involved to whatever kind of resistance,
protest or intervention he believes possible without overly endangering
them.
History:
Not much is known about his earlier years, except that he set out
on his own when fairly young and wandered wherever the wind seemed
to take him, until, during a time of rare hardship, he was taken in
by a wandering priest of Trithereon, and taught the principles of
that faith, when he knew he had found his calling - (Trithereon is
actually a Greyhawk deity of Liberty/Freedom/Pursuit and Retribution
against tyranny,etc.).
He hooked up with his current comrades when they were all drawn
into a common quest to save a mutual friend-the Princess Leiona,
daughter of the King of the Isle of Moray, from a powerful tanar'ri
attempting to conquer that kingdom. Afterwards, he befriended them
enthusiastically, particularly Celeborn, who during the event had
become the paramour of the princess; Eventually even joining their
attempts to build a new town in the Savage North called Hillcrest.
Using his inspiring, rabble rousing magnetism to draw settlers from
all corners of the region, he was able to attract an unusually high
number of settlers, pioneers, refugees, outlaws, etc. who were drawn
to his ideals of liberty and vigilance, convincing the other party
members to establish his religion as the official, 'state' religion
of the town. Thus, the town of Hillcrest was able to grow and expand
at an exceptional pace, until the other cities of the Lord's Alliance
began to rely more and more on Hillcrest's extensively-trained and
disciplined army and elite scouts for protection from humanoid hordes, barbarian
bands, and other hazards.
Recently, during a visit to a powerful wizard ally living in the
nearby hills, a magical experiment of his involving some unidentified
Artifact went awry, creating a kind of Planar overlap between the
surrounding 10 mile area of Toril and the Demi-plane of Ravenloft,
allowing a vampire-lord and some minions to cross over and briefly
escape, threatening Hillcrest. At the climax of the battle, while
trying to save close to 150 of the citizens from being pulled into
Ravenloft, he succeeded but was mortally wounded and began to transform
into a vampire himself until through the efforts of the Alliance
and his Deity's intervention, he was restored to life, but seemed
slightly aged by the trauma.
