Character
Description and History Although young, Onygians history is an
interesting one indeed. Onygians father was an Atonomist: One who devotes their life to
the scientific studies of the body. He oftentimes saw his father perform incantations, but
nothing significant. It wasnt until the age of eight that Onygians apptitude for magic was
noticed. His father had mistakingly left his spellbook out, and Onygian snuck into his
laboratory. Shortly thereafter Onygians father returned and was surprised to find that he
was reading the incantations. Realizing that his son had great potential as a mage,
Onygians father enrolled him into a local magic academy. Onygian was very intelligent, but
weak and unliked. His teacher refused to teach Onygian after only a few short monthes. His
father; hoping his son would follow in his footsteps, turned to one of his old friends,
and classmates.
Soon thereafter Onygian was off too The Deadlands to get tutiledge from his fathers old
friend - Vokal, who was impressed by Onygians intelect. Unknown to Onygians father Vokal
turned to the darker uses of necromancy; he no longer used his magic for studies, but for
darker, more perverted uses. This did not scare Onygian, he was actually impressed by the
power Vokal held. Onygian saw new uses for his magic too; death, destruction, control of
the dead and many other unmentionable possibilities. Vokal taught Onygian well, he
actually dropped all of his other students so that he could concentrate on Onygian and
unleash his full potential. Onygian learned fast, faster than anyone Vokal had seen
before. After many years Onygians father found of his sons perverted uses of magic.
His father tried to withdraw his son, but it was to late. Onygian didnt want to stop
learning dark magic, he was in to deep; Vokal also vehemently refused to give up his star
pupil. Vokal threatened to blackmail Onygians father should he become! involved. Onygians
father knew well what the citizens of his town would do if they found out the kind of
research he had been doing for the past twenty years. He couldnt afford the risk with a
wife and four children. Onygians father opted to keep out of Vokals business.
The time had come for Onygian to travel to the Forest of Wayreth to take the test all
young mages take. He traveled down and completed the test; however, it cost him greatly.
He was left with a skelotal hand, a low whispy voice, and his skin was given the cold blue
pallor of a corpse. Onygian knew little of the pacts he would be forced to make in order
to study the Black Arts, but it was worth it, the power was worth it. He returned to
Vokals tower to find his master dead, apparently a summoning gone wrong. It seems who or
whatever killed Vokal also had the intellect to steal all his prized possesions. The only
thing that Onygian found of any value was a book titled "The Book of Shadows".
Among the tossed papers he also found his masters journal. Inside he read his masters
plans to become a lich. He also read of how his master used his young apprentices bodys to
extend his own life. This also explained that Onygian was going to be the next victim upon
his return. Now Onygian travels to Palanthus to let his family know what has occured.
Onygian also plans to avenge his masters death, and retrieve the lost items and valuable
spellbooks. His journey is just begining... |
