Character
Description and History
Mordouin of Waymoot is a Silver Elf raised in the world of
humanity. His mannerisms are human, though he is highly curious about
his Elven ancestry. He is seeking to unravel the mystery of his
heritage; who his parents were. Despite his race, he is accepted by
the people of Waymoot as one of their own (as his unique Elven skills
have helped the town on several occasions.. i.e. A farmer had lost an
animal during the middle of the night and needs someone who can see
well in darkness..)
His foster mother, Mayra was once part of an adventuring party,
though she kept this a secret from Mordouin. She died defending
Waymoot from a Troll Raid on the town (the very same raid in which the
local lord, Filfar Woodbrand, gained his nickname as
"Trollkiller"). She was already of middle age during the
attack, and many of the townspeople saw this as a hidden blessing for
Mordouin, as he would no longer have to watch his mother grow old and
die while he still possessed the elven face of youth.
A few months later, after a period of depression, he discovered a
chest hidden in the basement of his house. Inside was some pieces of
adventuring equipment, along with an adventuring journal, damaged from
neglect, poor construction, and leaking water. It was, however, still
intact enough for Mordouin to discover that his foster mother had once
been called Mayra "GoblinKiller", a ranger who was part of
an adventuring party known as "Well Met of the Mists." From
the damaged journal Mordouin was able to determine that the party had
consisted of 6 members: Mayra "GoblinKiller"; A male silver
elf, a female halfsilver elf (whom are his biological parents);
Syndair Thorn, a young female magewho resides in the town of
Eveningstar; Grym StrongAxe, a large male humanfighter with a rough
personality and a penchant for Ale, and a sixth member, ofwhom all
record had been carefully erased save for mention of his betrayal
ofthe group which led to the death of his parents and the disbanding
of theadventuring party. Upon the dying request of his mother, Mayra
took Mordouin under her care and raised him in her home town of
Waymoot.
Mordouin left Waymoot a few days later and has been under the
tutelage of Syndair for the past several years. To this day, she has
revealed very little of her past as a member of "Well Met of the
Mists." and frowns upon behavior in Mordouin that could lead him
to a life of adventuring and travel.
Morham Quann, a fellow founder of the Company of the Flaming
Flagon, was a childhood friend to Mordouin after his move from Waymoot
to Eveningstar, though Mordouin saw him grow from a toddler to an
adult. They are sometimes called "The Mages Two" and fight
side by side with both complimenting skill and respect. It was
probably Mordouin who showed Morham his first cantrip spell, invoking
in Morham an interest in the magical arts which his parents have
regretted to this day.
The Journey Thus Far:
After helping to found the adventuring group known as the Company
of the Flaming Flagons, Mordouin then journeyed with them throughout
Cormyr. They defended Eveningstar from the wrath of an army of
Zombies, protected the countryside from the Kobold hordes of the
Haunted Halls of Eveningstar, found a cure for a magical blindness
that had been inflicted against a fellow Flagon, and drank their
weight in Ale.
During their adventure through the Haunted Halls Mordouin found
Bloodthorne, a weapon which would become, for a time, his primary
melee weapon.
During one if their frequent outings to the Lonesome Tankard
Mordouin met with with his lost brother, Arrior, who had been seeking
their father for the past twenty years. It was revealed to him that he
was of the noble elven family of Goldtree of the House Elorfindar. In
truth they were half brothers, as Arrior had a different (and full
elven) mother.
Driven by these new discoveries Mordouin and Arrior finally
cornered Syndair into telling him of his parent's untimely end: the
party was betrayed in Myth Drannor by Khorless the Black, a
Necromancer who had traveled with them. It was he who killed
Mordouin's parents. His mother, and Syndair's former teacher, was
Endar Vardoon, a priestess of Mystra, goddess of Magic and Lady of
Mysteries. His and Arrior's father was Quillinoreth Goldtree, a man of
both the art and the blade. She also revealed her greatest secret; she
was still young! During final battle of "Well Met of the
Mists" one of Khorless' necromantic spells had gone awry, somehow
permanently slowing all of their their aging to an imperceptible
crawl.
Arrior adventured with the group thereafter for a few weeks, aiding
in their quest to stop the assassination of Cormyr's King, Azoun, by a
hired group of Dopplegangers. The Flagons could not save the King in
time but managed to expose the face behind the heinous plot and put an
end to his vengeful machinations. Remaining Dopplegangers, seeking
revenge, assaulted Arrior with a poisoned dagger. It was here, on
Arrior's deathbed , that Mordouin was given Aurelith, the Goldtree
family Moonblade.
In the ensuing battle with the Doppleganger, who was posing as the
Lord of Eveningstar, Mordouin was killed by a Contingency Fireball
spell. The town clerics called upon Kaetonarius
avan Cielle, an elven cleric from Amphail on the Sword
Coast, to bring him back from beyond. Upon his revival Kaetonarius
told Mordouin that he was a member of house Elorfindar, though of a
different family. Mordouin learned that with the death of Arrior (who
could not be raised due to the nature of the poison used to kill him)
he was now the last of the Goldtree line.
Kaetonarius told Mordouin many things about house Elorfindar. He
spoke with zeal of their century-lost holdings in the fabled city of
Myth Drannor far to the north, and how one day, after fulfilling his
vows of marriage, he would travel there. Mordouin then secretly
decided that he would eventually travel to Myth Drannor and bring the
secrets of their ancestral holdings to Kaetonarius as a way of
thanking him for his recent resurrection. Though they had just met, he
grew to admire Kaetonarius for his Wisdom and experience.
Vowing to find others of his house Mordouin left Cormyr behind for
the sword coast and eventually found house Elorfindar, who welcomed
him to his ancestral home with open arms and a wild party which laid
even the Tavern-fond Flagons low.
It was here, with the help of Elder Elorfindar himself, that
Mordouin learned of the true, evil nature of Bloodthorne, the ancient
elven dagger which Mordouin had acquired from a fallen foe and had
been using in combat. Discovering that it was forged in Myth Drannor,
Mordouin vowed to go there and learn of a way to destroy the vile
artifact.
Yet, though he had many reasons to journey to the Lost City, he
realized that he was not yet strong enough to make that journey .
Rather than abandon his companions he decided to continue adventuring
with them until he was better prepared and more experienced.
The lure of adventure brought them to Waterdeep, the thriving City
of Splendors, and from there into the realms of the Underdark where
rumors of the Port of Shadows, Skullport, drew them ever deeper
underground.
In these lost caverns a run-in with a Ghost magically aged him by
several decades. Though he had lost his childish features he was still
by no means anything but a young man... by elven standards.
While in Skullport he encountered one of the ruling magical
floating skulls of the city which demanded that he draw from Morham's
Deck of Many Things, else the skull force one of his friends to do so.
Fearing for the safety of his friends, Mordouin drew, and luckily was
granted 4 wishes.
First, in light of acquiring the sword Aurelith, he wished to be
not only a wizard but also a warrior like his brother.
Second, he wished for a spell book containing some much sought
after spells.
Third, to know his mother and father for just one day.
Lastly, to be stronger physically so as to better wield a weapon.
The results: Mordouin's hair become shot with silver, the color of
Arrior's hair, and one of his eyes changed from his normal violet hue
to Arrior's amber; his command of Espruar, once stilted due to his
human upbringing, become fluent and flawless; his muscles realigned
and Mordouin became stronger. Thespell book was granted to him; and
lastly his mind was filled with overpowering memories not his own; the
memories of each member of "Well met of the Mists" on their
final day. He then knew his mother and father as they had, and saw
through their eyes and felt what they had felt. He also gained these
same recollections from Grym, Mayra, Syndair, and even vile Khorless
the betrayer. He watched his parents die, he watched as he killed his
parents; he lived what they each had felt on that last day.
To this day the Company of the Flaming Flagon still adventures,
each their own path yet inseperable nonetheless.
