Character Description:

Deregond was originally a spy for the Black Network, operating in Waterdeep and the North; his service to Semmemon and Dag Zoreth was principally out of fear for the lives of his wife and daughter. With the retaking of Thornhold by the paladins of Tyr and Torm, Deregond was caught and imprisoned for his crimes. Recognizing that he had the potential for redemption, the clerics of Tyr instructed their prisoner in the Grimjaws' teachings and converted him to their faith. Deregond became a paladin of law and cast aside his former path of service to the Zhentarim. He fears still for his family but this is his new life now and he takes heart that Darkhold likely believes him dead or rotting away in a Tyrite cell.

Since joining the Daggerford Rangers, he has excelled himself as a warrior, though his former rogue background has not quite left him and his unorthodox views on 'honor' vs 'justice' have demanded that the temple send one of their clerics to keep watch on him, to make sure he does not stray back to his darker past.

Recently, he was attacked by a ghostly spirit who divided his soul in two, creating from his sundered soul an evil twin that he slew. He now remains a paragon of goodly virtue - but is only half a man. Until he reclaims his evil side, now imprisoned for eternity as one of the souls forming the wall about Kelemvor's City of the Dead as due punishment for the Faithless, Deregond will never be fully whole. Unfortunately, he is wracked with indecision as to whether or not he should seek out his other half in the nether planes, since this would be a purely self-serving act and his duties as a paladin constrain his options. The irony is that, were he left only with his evil half, he would not care for such a dangerous mission of such dubious reward, but as a goodly man, he cares greatly for his soul but cannot afford to act.
