Character
Description and History
Once, in the village of Secomber, I was a farmer named Took BriarThorne.
It was here that I met and lost my love beneath a great willow.
Adroline was of such beauty that I believe even elven men would
have fallen to their knees at the sight of her.
One night as we walked past that same great willow a shadow stretched
forth from the branches. As it stepped into the moonlight we could
see that it was a vampire. Its fangs were sharp and its eyes full
of more bloodlust than even my grandmother's stories told of.
I picked up a stick and made to strike at it, but I was batted
aside like I was no more than a gnat. As I lay whimpering in the
shadows I heard my love scream in agony. I heard the sound of blood
and innocence being devoured.
As the beast turned toward me I heard the sound of a sword being
drawn. The creature leapt away from me and after a long battle finally
retreated. I was lifted and carried to an inn where my wounds were
cared for. When my fear subsided and my eyes could open again I
saw sitting beside me Treskar Selarn, the ranger who protects Secomber.
Treskar told me that though he had been able to save me, Adroline
had become one of those dark souls of the night, a vampire. He spoke
as if it were his failure, but I knew it had been mine. My fear
and weakness had failed Adroline when this ranger's strength and
courage would have saved her. That night I swore to avenge Adroline
and to free her from the darkness by whatever means necessary.
Once, in Secomber, I was a coward named Took BriarThorne. Now I
am a ranger called Abbadon. I am bound by blood and love to search
for the end of all vampires and the freedom of my love from her
curse.
