Path of the Heart
(Title sonnet of 'Flowers in the Wind II')

By Michael L Morris

Most dangerous is the path of the heart
But no path runs so true.
In love's name great ventures embark
To the ends of the earth as I to you.
For you see, love is the eternal thread.
Which links the hearts of all mankind
And if abandoned by a world mislead
Fear and destruction we'll find.
More dangerous though is the break of the heart;
Lost love can tear any eye.
The scar left behind is a horrible mark
Within which all bitterness lies.
But I shall pursue the path of the heart.
The struggle is worth the reward.
