I have been reading information on the Emerald Eye in the Grand History of the Realms. Can anyone tell me if any official or unofficial info has been written on this artifact and its abilities?

Thanks to the great sages here that can answer this.

It's mentioned, though not statted per se, in SEA OF FALLEN STARS.

Or you can extrapolate what you want its abilities to be by rereading old Fatal Five fights against the Legion of Super-Heroes.

I see, I was hoping to know at least what it was actually capable of doing. A lot of FR material has this really bad tendency to mention a specific powerful spell or artifact with absolutely no clue as to its functions (crunch does matter, heh).

Thanks anyway :D

The reason we usually left things vague is to allow GMs to tailor it for use in their campaign.

If you want some ideas, try these:
The Eye can link with a spellcaster or psionic and enhance that person's ability by channeling their magic or psionic energy through the eye. Add a minimum of six levels of caster/psi to whatever effect used and color it green.

Also allow for the Eye to do things akin to an archmage, allowing the shift of any spell effect into raw arcane/psionic energy and/or shifting any spell around into green flames.

The problem with using the Eye is the more you use it, the more it uses you. (It's an intelligent weapon with Int 20 Wis 18 Cha 20 that wakes up slowly but once it's awake, it'll try and possess whoever dares use it.) If the Eye possesses you, your hair goes green, as do your eyes, and you'll need that Eye like a drug (i.e. even if you intellectually know it's going to subsume your mind, you can't bear the thought of being parted from such power.).

There are probably many many more powers within this artifact, but that's the common use seen for it.

How's that help?

Steven
who did this without any caffeine and thus it's probably not well game-balanced, but it's an artifact so go figger....

None of those guys have an analogue, I'm afraid (or grateful).

Steven
though Mon-El's cape made it into the Realms visually as one of the magical artifacts of Calimshan with weapons stored in those big brass buttons at the cape shoulders....

Would it be possible to subsume the gem instead of it subsuming you? Give it a taste of it's own medicine, so to speak...

Coincidence or not - the Emerald Eye is 'active' in the Sea of Fallen Stars area, which for its western part is also the active work area of the Emerald Enclave... Maybe something for the spin doctors of Realmslore to work on.

It would take some very serious spin to make some sort of believable link there, thinks I. I wouldn't even try it, myself.

Is there a second Emerald eye, perhaps active off the coast of Matinza (spelling is wrong, sorry)? Or perhaps a blind Emerald Head which has it's own powers?
