Australia gets the Dragon Coast? Woot!
And that it just happens to be one of my favorite parts of the Realms, in no way influenced my reponse.
Okay, so maybe it did just a little. |

Is that really why?
Well, if for some reason I ever get the idea to play in the Living FR, at least I would get to play in a region that I like. |

Well, no. Probably not.
But it does mean that if I write any Living FR material down the line, I might actually be in a position to DM it at a local convention or event, were I so inclined... |

I wish I could say the same... It's not that I have anything against Aglarond, but it's not even in my top five choices of places to play. |

Wooly, Wooly, have nae fear! Ed attended a meeting of said RPGA brass at D&D Experience, and is firmly of the impression that regionality now primarily concerns adventure writing, NOT "the region your character MUST play in" (unlike Living Greyhawk). love, THO |

Typical! Blasted Sage. He makes me move from the UK to Australia and I miss out on Silverymoon.
Now where am I supposed to express my love for Luruar?

Damn, I just realized that "Western" US and "Pacific" US are two different things (sorry, have always had a better feel for FR geography than US geography). That puts me in the East Rift. Where and What in the nine hells is that? Yuck, am I in one of the 4e parts of the Realms? |

It seems, from what has been said over on Enworld in a topic about this, that the East Rift is the Great Rift renamed. |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Ah, now that changes things. That's good to hear (although, at this time it's not likely I'll be playing in the LFR anyway). |

Hmmm... I can't say I like the sound of that. I don't even recall it being referred to as "East Rift" anywhere in the previous Realmslore. |

BTW Rich has confirmed this today so there is now a West Rift and a East Rift. |

I've been playing D&D on and off for around 25 years now, and I've never been able to get my head round what the point of the 'Living [whatever]' campaign is. It seems like a lot of effort for not much reward. Needless to say I've never played any of the adventures, let alone joined the RPGA.
Is it mainly for people who don't have a regular group they game with?
Can anyone enlighten me? |

Just curious; why was Scandinavia, half of Europe and Russia lumped in with each other? Are there that few players there? |
Also known on other forums as ChazSexington, Kusghuul, and Claudius.

No idea, but at least we get the Dalelands. It is not enough to tempt me though. |

That few RPGA players, to be specific. A bunch in Germany and the Netherlands, a couple of active groups in Sweden and Norway, about 20 of us in Finland.
Even less now. Not only is the current base of active RPGA players in Finland rejecting LFR, we're also poisoning the wells and salting the earth that the plague of Living Forgotten Realms may never find purchase on our soil.
They released the first crop of adventure modules, and while they are not uniformly bad, there are none among them that I would call actually good, and a few that are downright hideous. |
