I'm interested in the "unnamed FR product, which players in Realms campaigns will want" for 2008.
I'm hoping for a big book of crunch. I know, a lot of people don't like crunch, but hear me out.
I would love to see a book the size of the core books (or the FRCS) with everything a Realms player would need to PLAY in the Realms. Make the FRCS the campaign book, the DM's primary tool. He still needs this "player's guide."
Think of it like this.
Player's Guide to Forgotten Realms (PGFR)= PHB. Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (FRCS) = DMG.
The FRCS would be much like it is now with a few exceptions. Everything that was reprinted in the PGtF (3.5) is not in it. It's 300 pages of everything the DM needs to run the Realms. Fluffy setting information. Just like the FRCS has now, but expanded with more info.
The PGFR would be around 300 pages as well. It'd have every Realms specific spell, every Canonistic prestige class (like War Wizards, Purple Dragon, Harper agent, Red Wizards, Shadowweave user, etc. etc. etc.) we as players need in 1 book. This of it like the PHB... Realms Species info, Prestige classes, Regional Feats, Gods, and Spells. It probably wouldn't have as many pages about Spells as the PHB, but all the Realms specific ones can be there and you can top it off with a section between Gods and Spells with a much more in depth overview of the evil and good organizations of the Realms that the players might want to join, associate with, or work for.
It'd leave a lot of room in the FRCS for fluff and important crutch that was as players don't need, but DMs and fans would want. It'd also leave the truly unique or the not so necessary or blatantly Realms classes for Region books (like Peerless Archer in Silver Marches, not necessary in a PGFR.)
The 3.5 PGtF was a perfect model for what a Player's book could be, it just was shamed for being the 3.5 fix, with new stuff we didn't necessarily want, in it. With 4E, they have a chance to make a Player's book people would want.
By going this root, when they do make Good/Evil organization books, Region books, even another religion book, they can fill them with more fluffiness instead of giving up pages for classes/spells/etc of stuff that IMHO we should already have.
A Realms monster manual would be awesome, it'd mean getting monsters out of Region books too, but I know that certain monsters have been inherited into regular D&D, so it'd be missing them or just reprinting them, but there's no reason the back of the book can't have an appendix of the MM giving a run down on any Realms specific monsters found in there that be in X region frequently. (I don't want to see another Monsters of Faerun.)

And aparently, it's exactly this that we will have. Well, I don't think that they will do the crunchie book that size... but it's a good idea. |

In the Gen-Con report of George is said that we will have two books next year, one focused in races, and the other in classes...
This, more the point saying that we will see more balance between fluff x crunch, and added the fact that they already have done this (with the PGtF), leave me to this conclusion. |

| I would like to see some faerun specific core-classes. the bladesinger and the crusader come to mind. |

What, and save us money?
What would be the point in them doing that? They seperated them to make MORE money... just be glad we don't get a seperate one for Feats, another for Skills, another for Spells...
At least not right away, anyway. |

| Hehe.. I just don't see how why there needs to be a races book for faerun.. the elves alone deserve their own book if you're gonna go that route. |

Agree! I will stay much more happy with a line like "Dwarves of Faerūn", "Gnomes of Faerūn", "Humans of Faerūn", and so... |

Yeah, but Dwarves of Faerūn and Gnomes of Faerūn would both be short books! |

Myths and Legends of the Realms. Just chain Elaine to a typewriter. It would rock!
Actually, I don't mind the crunch in my sourcebooks. I would far prefer to read the fluffy information about a PrC, then see the PrC in question. The way your suggesting would perhaps just throw in PrC's without the surrounding fluff, leaving that to a later sourcebook. |

My choice would be : VOLO'S GUIDES 3.5 hardcover...
Second choice would have to be a HEROES of FAERUN...updated...(the old 2nd edition one with Drizzt on the cover with Guen) I am talking a hardback with every freaking NPC volo's mentioned, down to stats for the proprieter of the Singing sword in Waterdeep, to the stats for Candlekeep Wall guards. that's something i'd like to see. (not that scouring this forum isn't a hoot when looking for pertinent info on NPCS when in a particular region. |

Strange, I see more a slim and light book of elves and thick, heavyset books of gnomish and dwarvish lore.
My dream line of books would be "Ed Greenwoods version of everything Realmsian", with at least one three hundred page book pr year with small type and pencil illustrations done by Ed.
Then again, I still dream of the domination of vinyl, Hammond organs and long guitar solos, so what do I know. |

Good dreams are sometimes worse than nightmares, because you know they just aren't true...
I'd LOVE to see Ed's version of everything, although I doubt that will ever happen. |

I for one think that the Dwarves have done so much for the Realms despite not having the coverage that the Elves and Humans get. What is an adventure without a dwarf? For that matter what is a dungeon without having the Delzoun architecture mixed with the architecture of the new residents of the dungeon. I am a huge Elf and Human fan but Dwarves got style and deserve their due. Give them a lore book or something. |

personally i loved the regions books before they became adventure mods. i love the regional versions of humans and the region based prestige classes. imports, exports, and specific social structures based around a region really filled in the blanks from the frcs(which could not fit all this info in) lore and rules(if only alternate options or substitution levels like in champs of valor)
