I have been wanting to read this trilogy, but have been hesitant (don't know why). I am currently reading Depths of Madness, and then will be devouring Paul Kemp's latest Erevis Cale novel.

Can anybody tell me if YotRD is a trilogy worth reading? I'm looking for positives and negatives of the books, not the authors. I can read just about any author's style.

Thanks!

I thought they were great fun, and I highly recommend them. To me, they are very much if the spirit of FR.

With dragons, interesting characters, a fun romp through much of the Realms, and nice tie-ins to bits of Realmslore, I thoroughly enjoyed this series. And the Realms of the Dragons I&II are among my favorites in the anthology series.

I quite enjoyed the books, myself. I did have a couple minor quibbles, but overall, I found the books to be a good read.

Overall it was a disappointment for me...

First, you have to know that RLB like to use many new monsters in his novels* (maybe because WoTC ask for it). In this case, it was Draconomicon, from which I hated the new "land wyrms", that are of course present in the novels.

Second, the very weird party was a bit too much for me.

Third, I disliked many of the fights with dragons.

*I have to say that even if Unclean is full of new undead monsters, I really liked it.

Picked up book one, but not sure if I want to start it yet, or wait for the next Everis Cale novel...I devour those! Love me some Paul Kemp novels!

I loved the YoRD series because it's full of fun dialogue...and RLB is very, very good at writing entertaining dialogue.

I enjoyed it up until I realized that the events weren't as Realms shaking as they made it out to be.

Not a fan at all of RSEs, myself...but I can understand feeling disappointment when a story that is sold as a "big deal" turns out not to be.

That's an understatement...

Spoiler alert.. hightlight to read..

When the dragons across Faerun go crazy.. you expect some major stuff to go down.. a couple worthless villages in the Moonsea gets destroyed.. big deal.

I have just started with book 1 “The Rage”, and I am enjoying it. It’s about dragons, after all, so it must be good in my opinion. Since I have read Elaine Cunningham’s “Counsellors and Kings” and “Evermeet” just before YotRD, I’ve had to adjust to the different style of R. Byers first, but I really like it. There are indeed quite a few not so common creatures right in the beginning, but that makes me only the more excited.

My first thougth when I read about Dorn Graybrook: He would be an ideal candidate for a dragonborn. The Lord of the Northwind should really contact him.

"What mattered our lives now? When our world had been torn from us? Folk wept, or drank, or stood staring out over the land, wondering what new horror each dawn would bring."
