Its interesting getting to reread some of these stories now that I'm a few years . . . er . . . wiser (?) than I was when I first encountered them. I am definately reminded of why Danilo was one of my favorite characters in the Realms at this point in my reading career. I love the quick shots that he takes at their young friend, and the fact that Hasheth completely underestimates Danilo.
In fact, its one of those pitfalls that can sneak up on you as a reader. I'm so used to knowing that Danilo is shart, and more than competent with his magic, that you forget how effective the fod demeanor was, and the fact that it was pretty convincing (and entertaining) when you first encounter it.
And I have to admit, I loved Arilyn's exasperation over Danilo haggling for a price on her. |
