Volo's Gide: Wyrms of the West, East, and South, by Brian Cortijo, with special introduction by Ed Greenwood - This newest Volo's Guide introduces three new dragons, none of which live in the north. Each has several paragraphs of fluff text, with no mechanical information (save for listing some magic items they have).

Hey, that was our idea!
It sounds good. And I like the part about no crunch. |

Sometimes there's no room for crunch. I only had about 800 words for each of three dragons, to make them both interesting enough to use, general enough to tweak if necessary, and tied enough into the Realms to make it worth the 'Volo' tag.quote: Each has several paragraphs of fluff text, with no mechanical information (save for listing some magic items they have).
The article does include a bit of short-stat information on the dragons and some related NPCs, as well as a mention of what spells, powers and tactics the dragons use when facing combat. It's not piles and gobs of new feats or spells, but it's the sort of information DMs need to use these characters in their games. |

That's good to hear. I'm looking forward to this.

Yes, I seem to recall something about that...

No worries.
It was one of those things that was discussed on more than one occasion, and then never really acted upon. And really, it doesn't stop us from doing more -- or at least talking about doing more! |

I don't really feel that badly. Even had I known about the idea, I probably would have tried to poach it, anyway; Wyrms of the North was such a wonderful regular in DRAGON, and to have the chance to write the 'dragons' edition of Volo's Guide and not at least give a nod to the former series would have been silly. The fact that this is the last in-print 'dragon'-DRAGON makes it all the more an honor.
By the way, I just opened up the issue in the mail, and the artwork is stunning. Great stuff from cover to cover, but the Volo's dragons are gorgeous. |

Find a dozen or two willing scribes, tell them to put their dragon masks on and get writing, et voila... Incidentally, the article sounds good. |

I got mine in the mail this day, and took a quick flip thru it... Garen's article looks good, but I just can't muster much enthusiasm for some of the other stuff -- particularly the linnorms and ferrous dragons. I didn't really care for either of those concepts the first time around, and I don't like them using page space to rehash them. |

Hooray for Moonshaes lore! Thanks for that one Garen, and for a smart white dragon as well. I haven't delved too much into our Calim desert dwelling friend, but so far its a great addition to Realmslore. |

I needed areas that weren't technically part of the Sword Coast North for this article, and that would be West/East/South of the Hearlands in order to fit the bill. Since Unapproachable East and the Hordelands opus recently covered most of that area, sticking a dragon into the Sunrise Mountains wasn't very difficult. The Moonshaes were one of only a few options, and by far the most interesting for me to explore in the West, so I had fun with that one, too.
As for Svern, I think you'll like him, once you get to know him. Just make sure you're polite. |

Just finished it . . . sounds like a good excuse to have a Calishite character with some of the dragon touched feats from Dragon Magic . . . hm . . . nice work all the way around Garen. |

An excellent excuse, really.
I'm thrilled to death that people seem to be liking the article--or at least the ideas it's looking to explore. Anyone else that has opinions to share, positive or not, please: do! |
