Hey, I've read the Icewind Dale Trilogy and Legacy of the Drow Trilogy, (and in the legacy of drow we know that Wulfgar dies) now...the next series to read, correct me if im wrong, is the Paths of Darkness Series
i was reading some short summaries on the first book of Paths of Darkness, The Silent blade...and it talks about Drizzt's companions..Cattie, Bruenor, and...WULFGAR!? and then it goes on talkin about....Crenshinibon! now..didnt they already beat that Crenshinibon dude...in Crystal Shard of ICewind Dale...when wulfgar was alive...or is this Paths of Darkness like a repeat or something?
Some1 please xplain...becuz im thinkin of just skipping to the Hunter's Blade Trilogy.

DON'T skip it.
These books will explain the entire Wulfgar situation, and if you are talking about Servant of the Shard, it's not a part of the Paths of Darkness series anymore. It's been removed from that series and placed as Book 1 of the Sellswords Trilogy.
Trust me, it's a series that really should not be skipped. |

Well....after reading Icewind Dale...where at the end they are ABOUT to recapture Mithril Hall...and then in the begining of Legacy of the Dro...the already Have captured it....i am guessing that Paths pf Darkness (in the time framce) takes place in between, after Ice Wind Dale when wulrgar is alive, and before Legacy of Drow when he dies. So...does this series explain How they recaptured Mithril Hall? cuz i always wondered about that....
P.S SO are you saying that Paths oF Darkness are: The Silent Blade The Spine of the World [ skip this book ] Sea Of Swords
and u skip Servant of the shard? |

Nobody is going to be able to explain where this series fits without giving you a massive SPOILER I'm afraid... |

This is the chronological order (taken from my post at the rasalvatore.com messageboard). Granted, it includes all of the short stories, as well as the Cleric Quintet, but this is where everything fits together:
The Drizzt books in chronological order (I am throwing in the Cleric Quintet because the characters paths cross after the end of the CQ series)
..........Realms of Magic(Anthology) ....................Guenhwyvar (Short story)[Features: Guenhwyvar]*1
..........Dragon Magazine #152 ....................The First Notch(Short Story)[Features: A young Bruenor]*1
The Dark Elf Trilogy 1. Homeland 2. Exile 3. Sojourn
..........Realms of Infamy(Anthology) ....................The Third Level(Best guess for timeline based on Artemis age ...)(Short Story)[Features: A young Artemis Entreri]*1
The Icewind Dale Trilogy 1. The Crystal Shard 2. Streams of Silver 3. The Halfling's Gem
..........Realms of Valor(Anthology) ....................Dark Mirror(This is a guess as to timeframe)[Features: Drizzt and a goblin]*1
Legacy of the Drow 1. The Legacy 2. Starless Night 3. Siege of Darkness
..........Dragons: Worlds Afire(Anthology) ....................If Ever They Happened Upon My Lair(Short Story)
..........The Highwayman(This is a novel of Corona, but features a Drizzt short story at the end) ....................The Dowry(Short Story)[Features: Drizzt, Cattie-Brie & Guen]*1
....................The Cleric Quintet(These books DO NOT have Drizzt in them, but the characters appear in later Drizzt books in cameo appearances)*1 ..............................1. Canticle ..............................2. In Sylvan Shadows ..............................3. Night Masks ..............................4. The Fallen Fortress ..............................5. The Chaos Curse
4. Passage to Dawn
Paths of Darkness 1. The Silent Blade 2. The Spine of the World
..........The Sellswords Trilogy ....................1. Servant of the Shard
..............................Realms of Shadow(Anthology) ........................................That Curious Sword(Short Story)[Features: Artemis Entreri]*1
..............................Best of the Realms(Anthology) ........................................Empty Joys(Short Story)[Features: Artemis Entreri & Jarlaxle]*1
..............................Realms of Dragons(Anthology) ........................................Wickless in the Nether(Short Story)[Features: Artemis Entreri & Jarlaxle]*1
....................2. Promise of the Witchking ....................3. Road of the Patriarch
3. Sea of Swords
The Hunter's Blades Trilogy 1. The Thousand Orcs 2. The Lone Drow 3. The Two Swords
..........Realms of Elves(Anthology) ....................Comrades at Odds(Short Story)
*1 Any time you see a book followed by a *1, it means that they are optional, and TECHNICALLY, not a part of the Drizzt series. ** I have left the Drizzt short from the Realms of the Underdark out intentionally as this short is NOT an "official" Drizzt tale. |

Hi Virendar,
I'm thinking that the problem you're having is that you haven't read the final novel in the Legacy of the Drow, which is in fact a quartet, not a trilogy. It takes place approximately five or six years after the third book and is vitally, vitally important to understanding Paths of Darkness, which grows directly out of it. Around where you are in the series, it becomes a lot more important, [in my opinion, at least], to read the Drizzt books in chronological order, as despite being divided in to series their stories tie together fairly closely. The fourth novel in the Legacy of the Drow is called "Passage to dawn", as can be seen on Laethan's excellent list, and I highly recommend reading it and not skipping to The Hunter's Blades, which will make pretty much no sense without PtD and Paths of Darkness.
Thanks for the list, Laethan. I wasn't aware of some of those shorts or where they fit chronologically.

The Highwayman(This is a novel of Corona, but features a Drizzt short story at the end) ....................The Dowry(Short Story)[Features: Drizzt, Cattie-Brie & Guen]*1
Where can I read this story without buying the corona book? |

I think that's the only place for now, but if they continue their "Best of" anthologies, and they have already done Ed's short stories and are doing Elaine's, there may be a "Best of RAS" short story anthology where it might show up. Mind you, I don't know for sure, I'm just looking at this from the way other anthologies and stories have come about. |

My understanding is that they are already working on a RAS "Best of the Realms" anthology. Not sure if they will include this short or not though. |

Well, you could always borrow it from your local public library. If they don't have it in their collection, you could use the interlibrary loan service to get it (probably for a small fee, though). |

It's merely a case of misspelling the word (or maybe it *was* a slip of tongue, you know how old Al's become dement... *ahem*, a bit absentminded lately ). Simply put, the D&D cosmology uses the word 'orc' while it is spelled 'ork' in every Warhammer book. Thus Knight was referring to the fact that Alaundo has apparently read a lot of Warhammer books lately as he misspelled 'The Orc King'

Heck, my copy of Passage to Dawn has Wulfgar's face right on the front cover. I remember thinking that was a little too much of a hint. I think it's interesting that Wulfgar is the shell-shocked companion. |
"That's right, hurl back views that force ye to think by name-calling - 'tis the grand old tradition, let it not down! Anything to keep from having to think, or - Mystra forfend - change thy own views!"
Narnra glowered at her father. "Just how am I to learn how to think? By being taught by you?"
"Some folk in the Realms would give their lives for the chance to learn at my feet," Elminster said mildly. "Several already have."
