Today while i was cross reading Player's Guide to Faerun and Races of Faerun i think to have noticed a typo. Sorry if you have already talked about this, i'm searching a comfirm (because errata don't say anything about.
In the table 1-2 Human Regions, at page 16, the row of the Western Heartlands, should Tethyrian be a recommended subrace and not an automatic language??
I think the answer is obvious but i prefer a comfirm.
Thx all.

I don't believe that it is a typo at all. I will provide three real world examples that will duplicate these circumstances:
The most common ethnicity in the United States is German. Virtually none of those ethnic Germans speak German. This includes my mother and her family.
Most individuals of Welsh descent do not speak Welsh, even when they live in Wales (until recent educational reforms in that nation). This includes myself and my father's family.
My wife, who is hispanic not only cannot speak Spanish, but can barely make an order at our local Taco Bell. I, on the other hand, speak Spanish with a degree of fluency, and French to a much lesser degree though I have no ethnic ties to either of those groups.
I hope that helps. |

Have you checked the errata?
The book does have typos -- the most famous being the repeated references to the month of Ukta. |

Maybe i was not so clear
You are trying to say me that there are people that live in a country, they are from different ethnies and they don't speak the language of their ethnies... and i'm agree with you. (E.g. Germans that live in U.S.) (E.g. Tethyrians that live in the Sword Coast)
But my question was a little different: In Races of Faerun, it says that Tethyrian does not have an official language and they live in Western Heartlands In Player's Guide to Faerun, and nothing is reported in the errata, it says that in the Western Heartlands Tethyrians don't live there and the other subraces (i.e. Calishite, Chondatan) apprehend automatically the languages Chondatan and Tethyrian. Now my question is: should be the word "Tethyrian" in the table of the PGtF in the column "Recomemmended subraces" and not in "Automatic languages"? (and so this should be a typo)
(Thanks anyway for your answer ninja) |

You might want to read the Talfir entry on pages 108-109 of Races of Faerun. In case you don't have access to that book, basically the region has been colonized by three main groups in the past few millenia: Netherese refugees, and settlers from Calimshan and the Dragon Coast. There were earlier inhabitants of the region, the Talfir, but presumably they were few in number, as their culture and subrace was quickly subsumed by the new arrivals. So yes, Calishite and Chondathan are indeed the most common subraces in the region, but a large number of people there also have Netherese and/or Talfir ancestors.
EDIT: Regarding your later post, 'recommended subraces' just means the subraces that are most prevalent in that region. For example, the Western Heartlands might consist of 50% Chondathans, 45% Calishites, and 5% Tethyrians; if so, that 5% wouldn't be included in the 'recommended subraces'.
EDIT 2: I see what you mean about the language. Tethyrian definitely shouldn't be the in the 'automatic languages' list, since as you said there is no such language; even the entry for Tethyr only lists Chondathan as an automatic language for that region. |

So i must think that Tethyrian should stay in "Recommended subraces" of the entry "Western Heartlands" reflecting what Races of Faerun says (i notice now that RoF lists in the table of human ethnicies that Tethyrian are the 80% of the population in the Western Heartlands) |
