So with the up and coming Undermountain book coming out I decided to break out my new Waterdeep book and read through it cover to cover.
I get the bright idea of trying to map areas of Waterdeep to Undermountain. So I took maps resized them in photoshop to get them in the right scale and then went about lining things up starting at the obvious point The Yawning Portal. Well low and behold things don't line up like not even close.
Has anyone else tried anything like this in the past?
I went over my mappings looked through some more material, the 3E Waterdeep book has a newer sewer map that also marks "dungeons"/"ruins", including Undermountain, under the city.
So I figured I'd work with points I knew that linked pretty directly and play with the rotation. I found by shrinking the Undermountain lvl 1 map just a little more and rotating it 30* clockwise things began lining up, Yawning Portal and Falling Stairs. Figured that was pretty cool so I went to go find more points I could test.
Next point I found was in the 3E Waterdeep book on page 124, says an area on the sewer map is linked with the Cavern of Eyes, on UM1. I go looking for it on the UM1 map nothing. After some advanced searching I found it on the South UM3 map in the old Ruins of Undermountain. Has anyone else noticed this mistake in the new Waterdeep? Is it a mistake?
I stopped at this point figured I'd post and get some feedback, a bit confused.

Hello-
I dont know for certain - but it seems that at least in some cases (not the Yawnig Portal) that the enterance/egress points may not be direct connections. Some of the connections may even go through several turns and/or twists before the connections are made. I did not look - so its possible that the connections you cite Are in fact more direct (like the yawning Portal) but I thought I'd add the comment in case it helps. :)

| Yeah I noticed some of them were purposely vague for that reason but I'm pretty sure the Falling Stairs and the Yawning Portal are both pretty direct at least they read that way from the descriptions. I decided for the time being not to worry about it, I'm going to wait for the latest version of Undermountain maybe that will match up better and if not then Halaster has been having some fun with bending space ;) |
