Is there a place where I can find the whole story of Lashan's rise and fall, or is the affair one covered in snippets from sourcebooks and nothing else? I've heard of no novels covering it, but then again, I'll be the first to admit that I am not very well grounded on book-lore.

The Old Greyboxset (1st edition FR campaign setting box) has most of the story

“I am the King of Rome, and above grammar”

Emperor Sigismund

"Its good to be the King!"

Ed has discussed Lashan, and his family, a time or two as well. Replies are in my sig.

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

There's also a little in the 2e FR boxed set and Forgotten Realms Adventures.

See both The Dalelands and Volo's Guide to the Dalelands for more.

You could try searching for summaries online. As I recall, also, I provided a brief summary of the Lashan events over on the FR Mailing List in 2005. I can't remember the exact month though -- August or September maybe.
