I've found very good copies of books 1 and 3 on a market stall as I was passing by.

Are these books out of print now (I notice amazon.co.uk only has book 2 for £16 ), and also a good enough read to warrant buying? I've still got the last half of wotsq trilogy, masquerades, tymoras luck, and stormlight to read, but I'm sure I could add to that list

If you like Greenwood (I do) they are worth getting. They are a bit action heavy for my taste and therefore not among my favorites, but they do clarify the Time of troubles and are the best lore on the Malaugryms.

I do not know if they are in print or not, but i would say that they are worth buying.

I bought 'em, read 'em and wondered why I bought 'em in the first place... My memory is kinda lacking when it comes to Shadows, I may have to reread them, but my overall opinion back then was kinda "wtf???" Maybe, now that I've grown far more accustomed to Ed's style I should read them again...

If you are an obsessive compulsive like me, I don't have to tell you to get 'em... if not...well, I dunno

I like these a lot and wish more Realms books were like them. Despite the Time of Troubles setting, this is honest-to-goodness swashbuckling adventure in the Dales and the Plane of Shadow without publisher high concept, authorial one-upmanship, overneat endings and all that encumbrance. Terrific characters, some great set pieces, and an indispensable look at the Dalelands, the Malaugrym and the Zhents.

I wholeheartedly agree with Faraer.
I enjoyed the series very much and apart from the points mentioned there is also a fair amount of action and interaction with Syluné which intrigued me pretty much.
We do of course also get a look at how busy Old Stinkbeard and some others were during the development of the "Avatar Series"...

Just my two platinum pieces though ;)....

Ditto. I definitely recommend buying these books and giving them a shot, especially if you can find them at a good price.

I liked them. I think of all books, these probably need a reprint, preferably with new covers (I get so tired of seeing the same cover to the 2e FR box set reused for this trilogy).

The question is, how long do you want to wait for these reprints? As of now there is no clear date (if there is ever going to be one) for them.

I've already read the Shadows of the Avatar trilogy years ago (my library had them). I just don't want to own the books with their current cover. I feel it's one of the few series of books with covers worst that the look of 3e reprints. Though this is purely a personal aesthetic thing. Perhaps it was unwise of me to bring up this limited tangent.

Hm, these books had some of the best covers to my taste. But then I generally don't like the newer covers. As I had the first printing of the 2ed. Realms box (with the rider on gold background) I don't think of that when looking at the book cover.

As one of my books has the new Realms logo, there must have been at least one reprinting, so it might take a while before there comes a version with a new cover.
