Well Met,
I am looking for a word to refer to the monsters that are listed in the Other Manifestations sections in FaA, PaP, and DHD.
is the following acceptable?
emissary an emissary is any monster listed in the Other Manifestations section of a deity's full (FaA, PaP, DHD, ea.) entry.
emissaries indicate a deities pleasure or displeasure act on behalf of a deity, often to aid worshipers are sent to inspire the faithful
emissaries can appear as a result of a successful roll for divine intervention in answer to a divine Summon Monster (ea.) spell
emissaries may have either the celestial or fiendish template, if they are eligible
NOTES emissaries could give some monsters symbolic significance (for another example of this, see Magickal, Mythical Beasts : Llewellyn Publishing). this symbolism could manifest in art (both Realms art, and temple art as well : as a point of reference, note the use of mythical beasts in European architecture), or in the writing of adventures. they can also provide foreshadowing, in an adventure.
also, in Greek myth, many of the monsters were connected to the gods in some way. for example, this monster sprang from the blood of that god, and this monster was the son of this or that deity. the same could be true for some of the Realms monsters.
finally, emissaries that are not of the prime might be the ones who grant the 3rd-5th level spells, if the rules in the DMG (1st edition) are used.
Is emissary the right word?
Mod edit: Moved to the correct shelf. Also, notate that the referred-to tomes are Faiths and Avatars, Powers and Pantheons, and Demihuman Deities, the excellent trilogy of 2E deity books.
