i have tried to buy THornhold from a bunch of different places online...and everywhere i go the price is extremely high. its very strange. most paper back books are 10 dollars or so (canadian) and this book is being sold for over 50 bucks?

i've tried Chapters and Indigo and both dont sell it, only used books are sold. can someone tell me where i can find this book for a cheaper price?

THORNHOLD is not out of print, but it was published in 1998 and has not been reprinted for a while, so copies are fairly scarce. I've even given away or sold just about all of my author copies, both the original Harper edition and the Songs & Swords repackaging.

I'm currently writing the sixth and final book in the Songs & Swords series. When that is released (the spring of 2008, I believe), it is likely that the previous books will be reprinted.

Hi, Virendar. Welcome to Candlekeep!

You'll find quite a few Forgotten Realms authors here; in fact, there are Q&A threads for over a dozen authors on the Sages of Candlekeep forum.

And, via the lovely The Hooded One (THO), a long-time friend and player of his, Ed Greenwood has a presence here, which I'm sure everyone here is constantly pleased by.

I have also had difficulty locating Thornhold. Can I read The Dream Spheres without having read Thornhold? As I hear that Thornhold is not about either Danilo or Arilyn.

"Paladine, you see the evil that surrounds me! You have been witness to the calamities that have been the scourge of Krynn... You must see now that this doctrine of balance will not work! I can sweep evil from this land. Destroy the ogre races. Bring the wayward humans into line! Find new homelands far away for the dwarves and the kender and the gnomes, those races not of your creation... I demand that you give me, too, the power to drive away the shadows of evil that darken the land!"- THE REIGN OF ISTAR, Tales IV

I'd say yes, it's been a while since I read Thornhold, but I can't think of anything that would be spoilt by going from Silver Shadows to Dream Spheres. You may want someone else to back me up or point out where I've gone wrong first though.

You could try Here

Granted its a UK site so everything is in pounds, but check the list for Shipping within the USA and you might get a reasonable rate. Though at the moment it doesn't seem like it.

I think I found my copy for about 8 dollars but the cover had some cuts in it and it was a used book. Keep looking and try this site it could help http://www.bookfinder4u.com/ it keeps track of over 100 bookstores and tells you the cheapest one for your book.

As for the Songs And Swords books you can read the others without Thornhold like Reefy said since it not only is the 4th book out of the current 5 but it has diffrent chacters in it. By the way has the title of the final book been released yet? Just currious what it is going to be called.

It's called Reclamation on Elaine's website, and I think it's something to do with Tethyr?

Anyway, you probably can get away with reading Dream Spheres next. Thornhold's relation to the Songs and Swords series is rather little. Just have a few secondary characters in Dream Spheres that get introduced in Thornhold. I would still try to get Thornhold though, as it's my favourite book in the entire series.

I'm afraid I won't be parting with mine. A quick scan of a couple of places found a copy on eBay going for a very reasonable price currently: here
It's going to be a while before we get Reclamation, but you probably will want to read Thornhold before it because I think Elaine said she would be trying to tie up some loose ends from it.

I know there's a used book store in my area that should probably still have a copy or two of Thornhold. Which area are you in?

I just got it for a very reasonable price, as part of a lot of Sembia books. Since I knew Black Wolf was hard to find, I jumped on the auction. I didn't check the other books until later, but, by sheer chance, the other books of the lot were exactly what I needed to complete the series.

Nice pickup. I found my copy of Black Wolf for 10 bucks on ebay but it was used; it was a bargin in my mind. Right now it is the only one of the Sembia books I own since I really only buy books when I can find them for a good price (plus I still have like 30 FR books that I have yet to read lol).
