Well,
The PCs have decided that even at 2nd level they are fit to venture into Skull Gorge.
It seems to me that this is a dangerous place where a few demons still roam, and undead alre likely to abound. Orcs and Hobgoblins once gave there all in this region and Humans were the ones to pack there souls off to the various hells. So can anyone tell me their tales of adventure in these locales? Along the river and creeping into a few ravines and white caves, what sort of foul beasts, dark creatures and black threats harbor in this area?
Any tales from you Far Wanderers is greatly appreciated. It is in our common cause that we invent most truly the trials and tribulations of our victims, the PCs..... - Wolfdark

Your PCs are quite daring.
Let us know how they fared.

Hello!
I remember that in one of my campaigns a group of PCs travelled there through the Underdark from Shamath(sp?). They were on scouting mission and encountered a deepspawn in one of the caves.
Might be a bit dangerous for the 2nd level characters.
Have a try with a hobgoblin tribe. Its leader or shaman might want to breed demons into the tribe or something like that. This would be something your PCs might want to prevent, wouldn't it?

I twice took parties of level 8-9s through there and I think on at least one occasion we had a TPK.
In my games you'd expect to see undead galore (Skels, zombies, ghouls wights - mostly former goblinkin), some scavenger goblin bands... Couple of young blue dragons, at least one late human lich, a cult and temple of Velsharoon, Packs of Harpies, a couple of Balors and attendent minions, a few mephits that can be either a help or a hinderance.... etc, etc.

Thanks for some ideas. I have a couple carrion crawler minis so I think they'll show up in a cavern/tomb, and of course goblins and an orc shaman with helpers-- and they're big ally, an umber hulk--- but that will be an end battle. Maybe they'll be level 3 or 4 with some decent gear by then. I will have to toss out a couple skeletons at some point, too. Variety is the spice of adventure after all.
They made level 2 a couple weeks ago and had a very good game last week where their game play was so good and they had so much fun I had to give them bonus xp. 4 good RP encounters and some surprising choices they made (again!). Then 2 encounters with goblins.
Their mission in the gorge is only supposed to be about 2 weeks, so I don't want them leveling up too much. I figure they can do a good job exploring some Hidden areas that have been crawled over by others, but some little hole was missed here or there, and maybe a new cave opened up by some beastie or another... They won't get thru the whole gorge, this trip... |
