Is it just me? The older TSR Forgotten realms products bore greater art on the covers and seemed to be written in a much better fashion than that of the WOTC 3rd ed line. The product construction as well. I enjoyed even just handeling them. For instance the FR series of supplements such as FR1 Waterdeep and the North. It was printed on parchment paper and came with a folded map the size of a coffee table. The art on the old 2nd ed products are much more enjoyable as well. Not that the new stuff is bad it just seems to me that more effort is into the mass production where as TSR cared more about the quality of the supplement. What do you all think?

It's not just you. Wizards seems more impressed with crunchiness than what the packaging's like. (If you don't understand the cruchy bit, read this scroll from the main library.)
Alaundo, here's a thought. Could we organize an official Candlekeep petition against the focus on crunchiness? Do you think it might help? |

Ok these kinds of posts make me very very sad...
I think Wizards is doing a good job with 3e, but yes the TSR people put a little more LOVE into thier products.
Curse the Haze Brothers and their slaves the BEAN COUNTERS. Let the Elves do thier work!!!!

You need to remember, Lazarrus, that for TSR, D&D was THE product - it made their name and made then what they were. As far as WOTC and Hasbro are concerned, D&D is just one of many products and not a very important one at that.
I agree with you completely, the source books and modules coming out now (such as they are) don't come close to TSR's in either quality or content. |
