I'm wondering if this is the direction that they decided to go instead of another Dragon Compendium, especially since some of the Paizo folks said that depending on how the initial release went, they might release "specialized" or "theme" compendiums based on a given type of article. Perhaps the softcover format works better from a profitablility standpoint.

Especially, if you consider how awfully expensive the first compendium was

What I'd love to see compiled is the "Elminster's Guide to the Realms" pieces, with David Day's art. That would be a beautiful book, as well as handier to reference than 23 magazines.

Yes indeed! That was my first thought when reading this thread! A Book that combines all FR articles of the last 'x' years - that would be wonderful.

I just read on Paizo that they are still interested in producing more full blown Compendiums, and are negotiating with WOTC to produce more. This got me to thinking that perhaps they are putting this out in order to either prove to WOTC how one would sell, or to check themselves with how viable it would be to put these out if WOTC doesn't give the green light, since they (Paizo) can put out Paizo material as a "special issue" much more easily than using information from the TSR era, which requires WOTC approval.
