The information can probably be used for every edition, the stats only for 3rd and 3.5. 3.5 may need some adjustments tho, which are found in the Player's Guide to Faerūn.

Yes, you see they brought out 3rd edition and then a bit later changed to 3.5 version. So when they made the Players Guide to Faerun the updated it instead of putting out another FRCS book.

"People will believe anything they want to believe, or fear to believe."
Wizard's First Rule: Chapter 36, Page #397, US Hard Cover (revealed by Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander).
Explanation by Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander: "People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People’s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool."

Well isn't it better to get the players guide to fearūn than the forgoten realms campaign setting? What are the differences?

I'd say no, it's not. The FRCS has a lot more info since it's double the pages of the Player's Guide. However, the Player's Guide has the updates to the rules for 3.5e plus a few other lore related items like the details of the Return of the Archwizards trilogy and book 1 to 3 of the Spider Queen series and then a little more about the new cosmology.

Basically most of the Player's Guide is just updates for 3.5e while the FRCS has pages and pages of lore.

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

At most you'll likely want both -- if only because of the "Campaign Journal" section in the PGtF which updates FR source material up to the end of the RotAW trilogy and Condemnation of the WotSQ series.

The expanded planar cosmology section is also a treat, especially if you make use of the revised Great Tree planar structure, as originally detailed in the FRCS 3e, in your campaigns.
