Hi, does anyone know the gloom dragon? ý was looking for some overpowered ancient beings of planes and its name as well as several other planar dragons I ve seen but I couldn't find anything but where they dwell and their breath weapon.
I would love to know if they are like epic like prismatic dragons or are they more like the normal dragons?
and if you know anything ý would like to learn the specifics. thanx

Well it appears to be a Planar Dragon and was at least mentioned in Dragon Issue #344 (Cover Date Jun 2006). |
"Small beings can have small wisdom," the dragon said. "And small wise beings are better than small fools. Listen: Wisdom is caring for afterwards." "Caring for afterwards ...? Ker repeated this without understanding. "After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first." In issue 344 of Dragon Magazine, 4 new planar dragon species were introduced: the Astral Dragon, Chole Dragon, Elysian Dragon and Gloom Dragon. They have not been detailed anywhere else.
The gloom dragon is given normal dragon stats and age progression, none of these dragons were epic. Gloom dragons live in the Three Glooms of Hades. They look like a skeleton covered in hide and have a ridge of tombstone-shaped spines running down their back. |

IIRC Gloom Dragons are Planar Dragons that exclusively exist in The Gray Waste of Hades (plane) as they represent the apathic loss of hope prevelant there and as such are not native to Faerun.
There Breath weapon caused effected victims to fall in a state of complete hopelessness.

Not in the Monster Manual. However, to find other planar dragons you have to look here: MM II (Hellfire Wyrm), Draconomicon (i.e. Battle ~, Chaos ~, Etherial ~, Rust ~, Styx Dragon and more Planar Dragons)
For Epic Monsters you might also want to look at some unique monsters discribed in the FR sourcebooks such as Klauth, a red great wyrm (FRCS). By looking closely you should discover more such opponents of CR in epic level scale. |

I looked through the prismatic and force dragons. they seem to be stronger than greater powers and grazzt or asmodeus can they be a challenge to ao or are there any monsters depicted that can be? |

I don't know why you're interested in this, but if you advance Grazzt and his colleagues like in FC I they shoud be above the oldest prismatic wyrm. Ao is untouchable of course. I'd put prismatic great wyrms in line with demigods in terms of power. I imagine Io as their most avanced paragon with divine ranks
Anyway IMO I think that Gloom Dragon from Dragon 344 is badly done, but if you look at elysium dragon and his picture, that's classic, lol lol |

Nothing can or should be a challenge to Ao. As an overgod, Ao transcends anything within Toril's cosmology.
Ao is more suitable as a plot device than as an encounter for players. There are not mechanics or rules for combating an overgod, so really, challenging Ao is beyond the scope of the D&D game. |

it is not for an encounter actually but just curiosity. ý saw in the book of vile darkness that asmodeus cr is 30 or sth but a great wyrm prismatic dragon form d20srd.org is 66. It just seem like these kind of dreatures are above even gods. so ý thought how would they be compared to an overgod. yeah, ý know glom dragon is lame but prismatic dragon is way too strong. |
