For a long time now, I've been getting random error messages on the Forums. Not 404s, mind you -- a page that says "File in use" and a some garbage. I've gotten this on my laptop, family desktop, and the computers on campus.

Before, it was just annoying. All I had to do to fix it was press Back and try again. Just now, however, I had the distinct displeasure of getting that while trying to post. When I went back, my post wasn't there. I had to type it all out again. Fortunately, it wasn't a huge one like a few that I just posted.

Is anyone else having this problem?

I get the "File in Use" error ocassionally, and a couple of times when posting, but the "Back" button always restores what ive wrote. DONT use the "Refresh" else i think youll loose your entry.

I didn't. It refreshed automatically. It's been doing that a lot lately -- refreshing when I hit the Back button. It's annoying, since I'm on dial-up; it takes an extra few seconds each time it decides to do that.

That happens to me quite frequently. I have a perosnal proxy server called Proxomitron running, and one thing it disables is auto-refresh. I think auto-refresh sort of masks out the error message. Maybe you smehow have auto-refresh disabled too?

I have never lost anything either by pressing the Refresh icon after receiving that error message.

Unfortunately, I cant do anything to resolve this error at the moment. This occurs in busier times in the forum and is due to the database method and format used for the forum. The only way to prevent this occuring that I am aware of is to install an SQL Server for Candlekeep.......which isnt cheap

Maybe one day

I hope this isnt causing too much of an irratation.

It's not much . . . just a mild irritant. I haven't had a post erased again, fortunately. That was the reason I posted originally. So don't worry about it . . . I guess we can live with it.

yes, i have gotten that as well. it is a reassuring thought to hear that others have, and I do not just have a really messed up computer. the idea of it occuring because of busy site activity fits, though. but i agree with bookwyrm; it isnt anything serious, just a little annoyance.

It's just one of those things. I get it too, of course, and I expected it from a forum, that I am suspecting is independantly hosted (which would explain why the forums can get a little ont he slow side). As was said, it's just one of those things.
