Not really sure. There are a few:
Pharaun Galaeron (sp?) an orc sergeant during Azoun's Crusade who has never been named, because he was plain funny Tzigone |
Mace's not so gentle gamer's journal My rants were harmless compared to this, beware! |

My favorite character would likely have to be Ren o' the Blade. I always found him intriguing as a proto-anti-hero. I always sort of identified him as the Wolverine of the Forgotten Realms. The concept of his character is classic. I think that I see a lot more of Tolkien's rangers in him than in Drizzt or any other notable FR ranger. He also introduced the idea of the Ranger/Thief to AD&D, where previously the only multi-class rangers were clerics. The Ranger/Rogue idea remains an intriguing one for me to this day. |

I'd agree..Ren was one of my favorite characters but (to be picky ) Ren was human and a dual-class...first ranger then thief then (breaking the rules) back to ranger
but he has always made the thief/ranger a favorite combo for me too |

I concur with your pickiness. Yes, Ren was dual-class rather than multi-class, but I thought to make my post friendly for those readers unfamiliar with that ancient and archaic system. Further, I don't recall that returning to your original class was against the rules...
I always wondered if Wizards might re-visit Ren o' the Blade in a series of prequels. I mean, Shal and Tarl didn't start adventuring until we started reading about them, but Ren made his way all the way from Waterdeep to Phlan before he ever appeared in print. I'd bet that there's a tale or two worth telling from that period. |

I think he's in the "heroes of Phlan" series (you know, "Pool of Radiance", "Pools of Darkness", etc.). |

Drizzt is too easy. Cadderly is always a favorite. Caledan Caldorien (hope I spelled that right). |

Always a fun topic... I can't pick just one. My favorites right now are Myrmeen Lhal, Malik el Sami yn Nasser, Alias, Mirt, Vangerdahast, Danillo Thann, and Erevis Cale. |
War to slay, not to fight long and glorious. Aermhar of the Tangletrees Year of the Hooded Falcon

Without a doubt, Laeral. She has style and she's a responsible and intelligent leader in her own right. Couple that with her subtle sex appeal, and the fact that she is (or rather was) the wife of the Blackstaff, and we've a character I'll always enjoy reading about.

Well, I'm sure that once I finish the War of the Spider Queen series there will be a couple of additions on my list, but as of right now....
...I'd have to say Drasek Riven, from the Erevis Cale Trilogy. He's a very, very believable character, especially as an assassin, and he's easily my favorite character out of that awesome trilogy.
Liriel Baenre was pretty entertaining too (that's what Fyodor said! *zing* ), and though she kinda hit some annoying spots with me I still enjoyed her character. (Mainly because the annoying spots were intended by Elaine, what with Liriel's naturally immature mindset.) |

Laeral's sex appeal?
Really?

I've always liked Danilo and Elaith, which certainly goes some way to explaining why Elfsong is probably my favourite Realms novel. I also like Khelben, Syluné and Giogi. |

That's why I said it was subtle. It's not something you immediately notice. Re-read Elfsong and City of Splendors and then tell me whether or not Laeral exudes a subtle hint of sexuality to you.

Fair enough.
What I'm drawn to when I read about Laeral is her always selfless nature. She's gentle and kind, with an intelligence and maturity that is far more intriguing to me, than any hint of sexuality.

Ryld and Pharaun, because the reminded me of a twisted version of Fafhrd and Mouser, and because Ryld was the closest thing to a tragic knight character you would ever see in a drow society (even if his affection was misplaced).
Danilo has always been one of my favorites just because if his wit and charisma, and because as much as I love Khelben, I loved the idea of Danilo tweaking him as well.
Khelben and Learal, because not only are they great political intruige characters (and not just because of Khelben, but Laeral's whole "secret identity" when she is in Skullport as well), but because dispite being power players, they still managed to be the "soulmate, I'd do anything for you" couple in the Realms.
Alias and Dragonbait, because I loved how they interacted with each other, and the fact that Dragonbait was an exemplar of paladin virtues while living up to them, not imposing them on others per se. And I also have a thing for red heads. And I have to throw Mintassan in on this, because I liked the idea of a handsome, chubby guy getting a woman like Alias because she came to appreciate him.
Liriel was just awesome to read, as was Fyodor. Liriel was an increadibly fun character to follow, and she was quite masterful with her inuendo as well.
Pavel from the Year of Rogue Dragons books, because he was a good cleric through and through, even up to the end, and even with a few interesting more humanizing elements.
There are tons more that I could come up with, but those were the ones that leapt to my mind at first. No offence to any author whose character I didn't mention, because I have loved many, many characters that have come across the Realms stage. |

I won't argue with that... I just think her experience with the Crown of Horns has "hardened" her personality a little. In other words... her playful and mischeivous nature (I wonder why you immediately noted that ), while present, is somewhat tempered by past experience with the Crown of Horns. She's not quite the lighthearted individual she once was.

Not the easiest of questions, but here we go: Myrmeen Lhal, Newt and Mirt are the characters that comes to mind that would drive me to buy a novel, Storm, Elminster and a few others are not far behind. |
