Mashoon was killed by Fzoul Chembryl in a struggle for who was to rule the Zentharim. Fzoul won, but don't worry, I bet Manshoon's clone(s) are planning his/their revenge.
Xvim was only a "cocoon" for Bane to emerge from. I think Bane had foreseen his plans to steal the Tablets of Fate might fail. He must have than done something to Xvim (or this was done already when he was concieved) so he could return from the dead. And he took part of Cyric's portfolio's (which belonged to Bane before Cyric was made a god) by right. I have no clue what the portfolio of Iyachtu Xvim was, so could anyone please enlighten me?
About the Moonstars and Halruaa I know little to nothing about. I know something about, but not enough to explain you. |

In response, the Moonstars are a sect of the Harpers that has split off from the main group, as led by Khelben Arunsun. The Blackstaff, angry at the less-than-covert operations led by more outward and head-strong Harpers (particularly concerning the campaigns of Dove Falconhand and Elminster and Lady Cylyria)formed the group just recently. The Moonstars are much more subtle and careful (I suppose more CIA - minus the evil - is a good comparison) than their other Harper counterparts.
The possible return of Netheril is something heralded by the appearance of Shade Enclave (a floating city that has been revealed to be the last living ancestor of Netheril) above the Anauroch. Oddly enough, the enclave returned just as a huge number of Phaerimm congregated at the edge of the desert. The Phaerimm were responsible for destroying Netheril centuries ago.

Yes, The Harpers do indeed still have the two branches (Berdusk and Shadowdale)...except in that the creation of the Moonstars has separated them even further...
However, I do believe that Blackstaff Tower is still on speaking terms with both factions.... |

Basically, Blackstaff did not like how Elminster was handling things in Shadowdale....it is eluded that he did not approve of how tactless things had been (i.e.-the Harpers have all but lost their level of former secrecy and have become a sort of police force more than anything else).
Falconhand just sort of was "written into" her fame (a la Elminster)- she was already famous and powerful when she was introduced...however, there are several books that serve as "prequels" of sorts to her story (Greenwood's Sisters novel are a good place to start).
As far as a second-coming of the Harpers is concerned, I have to say that I would not be at all surprised to see it happen - I think that the creation of the Moonstars is a step in that direction...
....we'll see.... |

Bookwyrm blows dust off the old tome, then chokes on the resulting cloud.
Well! Seems no one's been back here in a long time. Hmm, interesting, I never heard of the Moonstars . . . .
But King Tiax's question wasn't anwered -- how many sects of Harpers are there now? |

THe baneson Iyachtu Xvim was merely a vessel for the essence of Bane. In 1372 Dalereconing, Bane's plan came to fruition and Xvim exploded in green energy. His son did his job. Bane is back. There are many Manshoons. One is a vampire that rules the Night Masks of Westgate named Orlak II. The current Manshoon of the Zhentarim is a freeagent working for the Zhents, but of course Fzoul has full authority. Fzoul defeated him in battle.
There was a DANGER of the harpers splitting, but I don't think it came to fruition. This was a danger in 1371 DR but I think it all got reconciled. Am I correct?
