The Weapons of Legacy book says that as a character's level goes up, the weapon gains abilities as well. However, the book specifically says "character level", which in every other book means "all the levels the character has gained". Currently there is a wizard/cleric PC in my campaign that has a legacy device that required her to reach 5th level wizard before it could activate. However, she had a character level at the time of 9th level (4th cleric, 5th wizard), so according to the Legacy book, she immediately gained all the legacy abilities up to 9th level!
Has anyone else run into this, and how did you handle it?

I would say if the specific weapon notes specific class levels, that that would supercede general information about the item, but that's just my take.

Beyond my quick and dirty answer, could you let me know what item you are referring to? My friend has Weapons of Legacy, so its been a while since I looked at it, but I'm borrowing it right now, so if you let me know what item it is, I'll look it up and see if what I said previously makes sense.

Actually, the description that refers to character level is in the general information for ALL weapons of legacy, not any particular one. On page 24, under Wielder Requirements, it says "you must possess this character level to gain the legacy item abilities in the same row of the table...".
