Well, these are both among my favorites, but most people prefer Finders Stone as their more Realms specific whilst the Moonshae books feels like it takes place in a totally different world. Come to think of it, I for purely subjective reasons say Moonshae. |

The finders stone trilogy was fantastic, I absolutely loved it.
As for the Moonshaes, I've read the first two, but it didn't really grip me as much, and I'm in no rush to read the third one sitting on my shelf |

Finder's Stone, absolutely. The Moonshae books... well, I can't remember much of them, beyond the fact that they were dull, the characters horribly boring, and so forth. That, and the fact that I never liked Douglas Niles' writing (I read his DL books, The Golden Orb and The Messenger and found them unspeakably abysmal). |

While I liked both trilogies, I voted for finders stone. |

Indeed, go for Finder's Stone (ye would do well to follow it by reading Masquerades, Finder's Bane and Tymora's Luck afterwards too )
I'll echo Big Al on this one. The Moonshae trilogy was one of those couldn't wait to finish, just so I'd be done reading them and could get on to something else.
The Finder's Stone books, now... The writing duo of Jeff Grubb and Kate Novak is a wonderful one. When it comes to Realms fiction, I would only place Elaine higher than them. Their stuff is some of the best we've ever had, and I can't recommend it highly enough for anyone. |

I haven't read either trilogy (yet) per se, but I loved Finder's Bane and Tymora's Luck. That should say something good about Grubb and Novak's work. |

sheesh I feel old ...I read both of those series as they came out...for the first couple of seconds after reading this thread I thought "I can't believe he hasn't read both yet!"
For anybody young or new to the Realms did you know then that the original Azure Bonds and Pool of Radiance story line (before the novels) were in the same series?
And I also felt the Moonshea novels felt "outside" of the Realms (and the island kingdom still recieves little attention today) |

Well they were originally written for Dragonlance. :) |

Kalin, you feel old when you remember seeing Return of the Jedi when it was originally released... or partying to Sunday Bloody Sunday before U2 became "popular" |

I feel old when I rememebr being in the Beaver Scouts and talking with friends that there is a rumour that Darth Vader may be Luke's father and crying the day when my mother told me that the man that sung the song "Imagine" was murdered
I know I'm not that old, but it still feels like it, especially when you roleplay with kids 10-15 years younger than you |

A Beatle?
NOTE: I listen almost exclusively to foreign metal. The CDs I own include Nightwish, Moonspell, Therion, Tristania, Lacuna Coil, In Flames, The Rasmus, Theatre of Tragedy, Stratovarius, and Apocalyptica, with a small collection of modern American rock/metal, including Evanescence, Godsmack, Stabbing Westward, and Adema. But I far prefer the former group.
The majority of music isn't complex enough for me. |

I only continued to go off topic because the OP was encouraging it, to a point, and because he finished completing the topic's task (reading the chosen trilogy)..

Read Finder's Bane and Tymora's Luck if you haven't already. You may have to search around for them, though. |

First he must finish the trilogy out by reading Song of the Saurials (another great one IMO). I seam to remember the good folk around here talking about a Dragonlance book that feel between Finder's Bane and Tymora's Luck but I was told not to worry about it since it was a Dragonlance book. Does that book have the same chacters as the rest or is it just a total off shoot? |

Now I wonder if and how the Finder's stone trilogy books are connected to each other? They seem to tell 3 independant stories. And is Finder's Bane connected to that story as well? Or is the only connection between these books the obvious that they have the same authors? |

The books in the trilogy are very much connected. The follow-ups can stand alone somewhat more, though Tymora's Luck is a direct sequel of Finder's Bane. |
