I wonder if anyone out there can tell me the reason why a Dracolich has the special defense of negating ALL attack bonuses. Not just magical, but natural bonuses as well. I can see them negating the magical bonuses from spells, items and even weapons, but why do they negate strength and class bonuses like specilaization? I can't find anything in all the 'official' literature out there that can explain this other than 'It's their natural make-up." Any ideas would be appreciated.

I can't find anything about this. Of course, I only have access to a second-edition monster book. Is this something new, with 3E? |

Nope. Not from 3rd Ed. The info I gleaned is from the Montrous Compendium, Cult of the Dragon, and various other supplements, all from 2nd Ed. I even went so far as to look for this info in 3rd Ed. (shudder) and nothing there either. It's just something that's really been bugging me. |

Well, I can't help you -- I'm only starting on the nuts-and-bolts of D&D and the Realms.

I looked in "Cult of the Dragon", "Monstruous Compendium #3", "Magic of Faerun", "Forgotten Realms Compendium", "Lords of Darkness"
The best i had is "due to is magical nature" for 2nd edition. But i didn't find anything about negating all attack bonuses in 3rd edition.
Sorry, i'll try to find again. |

Thanks for trying Zemd. I'm beginning to think it was just my DM's interpretation of its powers, and nothing really 'in black and white'. Still, I have to wonder if this interpretation is entirely accurate. In all the books/supplements/etc I've read about monsters in the Realms, there isn't one thing that has this particular power, or one that even comes close to it for that matter. Any personal ideas as to why this creature has this particular ability/power? |
