Hello all,

Faiths and Pantheons gives the Divine Ranks of the Deities is gives in great detail. Has anyone found/created/speculated what the ranks of every other power would be?

thanks

You might want to take a look over at the WotC boards. As I recall, there's an extensive thread dedicated to that exact task over there.

As well as about a billion threads about who is the most powerful person in the Realms . Yeah, I tend to stay away from the WoTC boards.

And if the PCs DO win their ways through all the liches to Larloch, “he” will almost certainly be just another lich (loaded with explosive spells) set up as a decoy, with dozens of hidden liches waiting to pounce on any surviving PCs who ‘celebrate’ after they take Larloch down. As the REAL Larloch watches (magical scrying) from afar. Myself, as DM, I’d be wondering: “Such a glorious game, so many opportunities laid out before your PCs to devote your time to, and THIS fixation is the best you can come up with? Are you SURE you’re adventurers?” -Ed Greenwood

IIRC correctly, Ed has said Sivine Ranks are mere mortals percention of such things. Also I believe there was some comment on other powers that in effect have the effects of being divine, imortal, great power, etc.

As mere mortals we can not truely understand the powers of those greater then us. Perhaps A has a Divine Rank of 0, but also possesses an artifact that makes him appear to mortals to be much more powerful.

The Divine Ranks as listed should make it easy for a Greater Diety to contain a lessor deity, but such events are rare. There have been examples of lessor deities holding more powerful deities captive for at least a time.

At best devine rank in game terms means what nortals believe.
Divine Rank for a DM is to give a measure of powers that WotC currently decides they have. How unkillable they are and skills/talents/etc. they can bring to battle if one seeks to kill them.

"Small beings can have small wisdom," the dragon said. "And small wise beings are better than small fools. Listen: Wisdom is caring for afterwards."
"Caring for afterwards ...? Ker repeated this without understanding.
"After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first."

Hello-

I beleive that the Divine Ranks may also be a measure of how mortals, in general, regard the various deities related power levels. Few would think that Finder, for example, should have a higher Divine Rank than Mystra. However - the difference between Finder, and say, Shaundakul - :) - is probably much smaller.

Certainly, lower-power deities may gain some advandages over other, higher-powered deities from time to time - but it would be my opinion that these would be transient - and the Divine Rank levels would alter and shift back again.

However, this would have little or nothing to do with Serious changes - such as one deity actually killing another - and sunsuming some/all of the slain deitiy's portfolio. This could certainly cause a long-standing Divine Rank to shift. (*Certainly, for the deceased deity if not for the deity(s) who gain portfolios.*)

And yes, I also beleive that mortals may not have a full enough grasp of situations to acurately designate these ranks in every circumstance. See above comparisons. Few would claim Finder higher than Mystra, but certainly 'open debate' could arise from the Finder-Shaundakul comparison.

(*Note - I did not look up any of the Divine Ranks of the deities mentioned. If by some fluke Finder and Shaundakul are the SAME Divine Rank - that was not my intention - merely comparing two deities who were clearly NOT of the same caliber of Mystra as far as Divine Rank goes.*)

I am collecting the D&D Minis. I would be more than willing to trade with people. You can send me a PM here with your email listed - and I can send you my minis list. Thanks!
