Is there any canon translation of the names of the Outer Planes? If not, can someone take a look at my own attempt (based on the dictionary at Candlekeep.com and with a few combinations of my own)? It's for an eventually forthcoming Outer Plane game with an elvish party.
Please and thanks in advance!
Elvish Name Translation (Common Name)
Suor Ardun Mountain of the Holy (Mount Celestia) Oraeska Fortress Woods (Bytopia) Daoine Duna Hills of the Stars (Elysium) Arsyrūn Great Wilderness (The Beastlands) Arvandor Great Forest (Arborea) Gisiae Duna Hills of the Guardians (Ysgard) Ararrnarūn Land of Great Storms (Limbo) Sharde'Mor'Duna Dark Winds Blow (Pandemonium) Tanar'ri'iilor Place of Outcasts (Abyss) Dhaerow'iilor Place of Traitors (Carceri) Biir Shil Waste of Shadows (Gray Waste) Avaeathilvandor Forest of Sorrow (Gehenna) N'suor'iilor Unhallowed Place (Baator) Dragfaera'iilor Place of Hateful Battles (Acheron) Myth Akh City of Duty (Mechanus) Ondathrūn Kingdom of Peace (Arcadia) Rirūn Outlands (Outlands)
(Yes, I am using the Great Wheel for this. Sue me. :D)

How about some for Sigil, the Infinite Staircase, and the two rivers. :) Styx and and, crap forgot the upper planar river. Or the World Ash.
In otherwords, they look good and I might even use them. |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

How about the realms-specific planes?? (I can already detect a few people spitting at this remark lol) |

First, a correction. Sharde'Mor'Duna should be translated as Dark Windswept Hills, not just Dark Winds Blow.
And as for Sigil and the two rivers:
Myth Aeloua City of Meetings (Sigil) Suorlalala Holy Water (River Oceanus) N'suorlalala Unholy Water (River Styx)
Re: Realm specific planes, maybe in a couple days. Next up is organizing a list of the Seldarine before the fall of Lolth. (Biggest hurdle - do I invent elven gods for the schools of magic that don't have them, even with that old Dragon article, or let that slide?) |

Alas, the dictionary doesn't have stairs, infinite, world or ash in it, so these terms are a bit more of my own devising.
Which has never stopped me before, of course.
Suoresssonta Blessed Tree (World Ash) Hondghaatiil The True Traveling Path (Infinite Staircase, from which the High Mages took the name of the ritual Ghaatiil) |

Nice .
In the dictionary you are using... is there a translation for "Doors"? I'm thinking that a translation for "City of Doors" would be a nice alternative as well.

Good idea, but no luck, unfortunately. My only source is the Elvish dictionary here on Candlekeep.com, which is nice, but has a slightly limited word list.
Anyway, here's a few more:
Artil Place of Great Air (Elemental Air) Arael Place of Great Earth (Elemental Earth) Arevael Place of Great Flame (Elemental Fire) Arlalala Place of Great Water (Elemental Water)
(Air is my own invention, and Earth and Fire are sketchy adaptions of roots in the Candlekeep dictionary.)
Also, Gehenna perhaps works better as Avaeathil'iilor Place of Sorrow despite the overuse of the -iilor suffix. |

I have used Palurinorn as an elven name for the World Tree. The roots are from Steven Schend's dictionary, although they are derived from Tolkien. |

Is his dictionary online anywhere? I found one at Myth Drannor.net that credits him in part, but does he have a specific site? |

And here's the updated version (includes some material from the Semberholme dictionary and a few words of my own devising), with more of the inner and transitive planes.
