Something that Eytan said over at the Paizo boards caught my imagination and reminded me of something I was going to do for a person that never ended up playing in my campaign. He was thinking about playing a Warlock, but he wanted him to be a CG monster hunter paranormal investigator type. So I thought, how about the Warlock or his family made a pact with Slaadi to gain their powers? Not quite as sinister as a fiend, but strange enough that if any of them came looking for a payback it would be interesting.

Eytan and a few others at Paizo were discussing the fey in the Yuirwood as a possible source for Warlock abilities, and I thought, hey, lets see what kind of Warlock "pacts" we can brainstorm. What kind of creatures would be able to facilitate a Warlock's abilities, and what might they ask for in return? And how many things would be willing to honor a family agreement as opposed to a single character's plea for power?

Let me know what you guys think abou this.

Something with a long memory or who keeps good records may be interested in granting a mortal lineage powers through the ages. Maybe some sort of minor deities, demigods, pseudo-divinities. For CG aligned beings, maybe Asuras, sort of the forgotten celestials. Maybe some of the beings that inhabit Ysgard (old Great Wheel cosmology or equivalent), who are CG(N) and may have a passion for heroism and monster slaying. What about a really powerful NPC, Ioulaum and beings of his caliber, entities from dead empires and forgotten after eons.

I'm glad it sparked your interest. It seemed to me that the Yuirwood was the perfect place for a warlock (well at least an Elven one) because they can tap into the wild forces of the strange supernatural dimensional forest. Other powerful forces in Faerun could definitely provide similar sources of power.

My most recent long running FR character was a Star Elf Warlock 7/Master of the Yuirwood 9.

The Telthors (fey spirits) of Rashemen strike me as a possibility. In fact, perhaps some of the Hathran are warlocks... well, witches rather (as opposed to all of them being specifically members of that prestige class). It could help explain away some of their mystery (or given them back some mystery).

Alavairthae, may your skill prevail

Im curently trying out this class and created Tovan al'Saiel a CN calishite human from the Western Heartlands (lvl 4). He has the snake blood regonal feat, from his fathers side of the family. The yang-ti ancestral influance coupled with a strong magical potential are what makes him a warlock.
