Really? Then maybe I shall hold off on my thus-far fruitless efforts to complete my collection of Sembia books. |

Are they really redoing the cover art? Bummer. That was some of the only relatively-recent ocver art I actually greatly liked. |
Doggedly converting 3e back to what D&D should be... Sigh... And now 4e as well. |

Eek, yes. Terese Nielsen is a great artist; I'll miss her work. |

*echoes this* Indeed. The FR-line need more of her art, not less. |

Which is the same for other scribes who've also said much the same here at Candlekeep.
I'm not sure whether I'll pick these new re-prints up myself -- but I'll certainly take the opportunity to read through all my copies again .

kind of crazy to me. I have been in the realms almost the entire time it has been in published works. I do believe this would be the "fastest" re-print of any of the novels. hey how about ones like the finders stone and the harpers. Anyways, my 2 coppers |

WOTC can't do it for more old books ?
I haven't black wolf, I will, I think. But there es a lot of before I want to have too. It's only WOTC who take the decision ? |

What an odd decision!
Whilst the Sembia series is one of my favorite FR series, I doubt i'll pick these reprints up. I can understand WotC's reason for rereleasing, but like Alaundo, i'd much rather have seen a rerelease in the form of a collectors edition or something, which i DEFINATELY would get.
Once WotC decide to reprint Finders Stone (+ sequels), then i'll praise them wholy |

To my untrained eye, it seems to me that the Sembia cover art underwent a conceptual change from the early books in the series to the later. The later books, while still retaining a feel reminiscent of the "portrait" concept, introduced some action and more interesting scenes. "Black Wolf," "Sands of the Soul," and "Lord of Stormweather" are very nice covers. On the other hand, I find that "Shadow's Witness" is not as interesting, so I'll be glad to see a new interpretation. I always thought the SW cover missed Cale. Strangely, the interior art in the same book (also by Terese) got him exactly right.
In truth, everytime I look at the Shadow's Witness cover I think: "Watch out! Cale's brandishing his +2 hand towel! Don't make him draw his flaming burst handkerchief!).
Let me add that I think Terese hit the ball so far out of the park with the Cale Trilogy covers that I'm pretty sure the ball reached escape velocity and is even now whizzing past Jupiter.

And don't kid yourself, a flaming burst handkerchief in the hadns of Erevis Cale is a site to behold!
Thanks, Paul, for the chuckle! |

I'm sorry to hear you say you didn't like the cover of Shadow's Witness Paul. One of the things that first attracted me to the character of Cale was the interesting dichotomy between his role as butler to House Uskevren and his life as ex-assassin and priest of mask. Over time we've seen Cale transform into uber shade of ultimate power with little remaining of his humbler self. Looking at the cover of Shadow’s Witness has me remembering fondly that lost side of Cale character I liked so much. |

That's an interesting observation, Brian. For me, the SW cover didn't capture the inner tension of the character. I guess I think it was too "butlery." On the other hand, the inner black and white in SW (also by Terese) got it perfectly. There, Cale's in his "natural" element, blade in hand, and his body language mirrors that, but his facial expression seems ambivalent about the whole thing. He looks at war with himself, which is just right. I feel the same way about the Cale trilogy covers (also by Terese), in which I think she amazingly captures that tension with nothing more to work with than a close up of his face.
Different strokes, I suppose.
