For those who wait as I do. City of splendors is now out in paperback. Just got mine today from Borders.

Mod Edit: Changed the title a little to reflect what the topic is about.

Where are you located? My local Barnes & Noble usually gets new novels in about 2 weeks after everyone else, and they had it 2 weeks ago...

that seems to be the trend everywhere wooly, here in new york, my borders always gets their d&d novels at least 2 weeks before the barnes & noble does (they are only a few blocks away from each other too!)on the actual release date the latest.

Of course. I checked out the hardcover from the library when it came out.

And I bought the hardback when it came out. :)

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... And I did both... mainly because I knew the Lady K would never leave me alone with the hardcover I purchased .

I gave her the library version to read... and I read the hardcover .

-- Oh and Wandering_Mage... there's been lengthy discussions on what some scribes thought of the CoS novel. Look through the archives of the FR Novels section for them if you're interested in what other scribes thought of the book.

I only picked it up in paperback the other week. Enjoyed it a lot.

Considering that I order from amazon.de, and by the handful, I have about a dozen or so books to read at the moment, plus about as many 3.5 books...um...why the bloody hell do I keep ordering books?!?!?!?!?!?

You should see my stacks, yes, there's about six of them. :) In other words, I have at least about 30 novels to read and I keep returning to the bookstore. As I've said before, I need to stop buying 3+ for every 1 I read.

I used to dream about doing that... .

As it is though... I've completely given up trying to make reduce my stacks of assorted fiction and non-fiction books to read before purchasing new ones. I'm still purchasing more books than I read at a time...

My FR "to read" books number among the most... with the *oldest* title stretching back to RAS's The Thousand Orcs.

I just finished this great novel today, anyone wish to talk about it. I know it is not within the bookclub section, but Alaundo did state that we can discuss any novels not on the bookclub list within this area. so what say you fellow scribes??

Additionally, I would be willing to discuss any "classic" novels within this area, anyone else??

scererar, I still dip into COS every second week or so, and I've re-read it about a dozen times. Knowing a little about what Ed and Elaine had to cut, I wince now and then, but it remains a GREAT book, fun and fast-paced and lively and FULL of "the smell and taste of Waterdeep." Some folks don't like the ending, but I prefer to just read the book and enjoy what the authors have shown us. A classic.

Yes a very good book, and 2 of my favorite authors sharing it. Additionally, I rather liked the ending, it was a good twist. Thanks for the reply THO. I have been here on the boards for about a year and you have yet to utter my name.

If that doesn't count as uttered, I don't know what does . . .

Just finished the book about 10 minutes ago. I haven't been moved by . . . wait . . . I'll save it for a deeper analysis . . . but, wow.

I often buy my books 3-4 at a time from the bookstore but on top of that I also buy them off ebay and get them in them in bulk. I knocked out the Forgotten Realms stack and have started moving onto the other novels while I await The Last Mythal book III. Books are just too easy to buy, it's only $7 one or two more won't hurt! Next thing you know you have a stack in the 30's

A request: If you have nice (or even neutral) things to say about CoS, please stop by amazon.com and post a review. The book is getting trashed over there--and wouldn't you know it, the "spotlight review" is one of the more negative ones. It would be nice to have a bit more balance in the opinions.

And of course, if you hated the book and feel the need to say so, stop on by. Lots of reviews, even if some are negative, actually give the book more presence than a few good reviews.

Thanks!

Taken care of Elaine. Appologies to you and all the other authors that I keep forgetting to post on Amazon for. I know its a fairly well known forum, regardless of accuracy, so I should keep that in mind while trying to support my FR authors. Thanks for reminding me Elaine!

Done. In my opinion very good book, but I can see how someone not familiar with the realms, might see it in a different light.
