Hey, was Eliminster ever the Magister? In one of his books he is performing the duties of the Magister but he is not really teaching anyone magic. Just spreading it like Mountain Dew at a late night DnD gaming session. Also, who was the Magister? Is there a timeline or some such bit of info to better inform me? I would appreciate any help that could be given.

A complete list of Magisters can be found in the old 2E supplement Secrets of the Magister.

And Elminster was never one of them. :)

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

And Ed discusses a little of the differences between the office of Magister and Mystra's Chosen in his '05 replies.

It's as if you three all speak as one. Are you (Wooly, Kuje, and Sage) the next generation of the Chosen? Just a thought. Anyways, thanks for the info. Can't say I've heard of the Magister supplement but I know where to find it. I love the Magic of Faerun book. It is my bible along with the FRCS. Now I am off to read some more Ed Greenwood answers. thanks again.

Just a note... be sure to look for SECRETS OF THE MAGISTER (as Wooly stated above) which was published in 2000 and not THE MAGISTER (which deals primarily with magic items and other aspects of the arcane) published in 1988.

It can be confusing... .

There is one in my Campaign, but its a She, and she doesn't care for rodents considering her Animals are Scorpions/Spiders and Ravens.

imo, Secrets of the Magister is among the top five FR books. it is choke-full with lore and stuff that just begs and screams to be developed into npc's, side-treks, adventures or even whole campaigns.

the magic-gifted clans for example: I always wished that we see more of them! ..btw: what about a postfest or something like that to develope more of such families?

...or the brilliant way of explaining why the red wizards or zhentarim with their "army" of spellcasters haven't long ago overrun the dales (or whatever region they wanted to conquer). when it dawned on me just how simple, yet brilliant the reason was, I was all smiles and smirks.

...or the short but superb text about magic gates/portals in the realms,

...or... *sight*
in other words: try to grab one of these books as soon as possible. I for one got mine on amazon (the german site had them over one year, and very cheap, so I could re-sell them on ebay and make a (very) little money by that way).

whooly, what's wrong with Brandobaris, or Erevan Illesere(sp?)? or Tymora? while the latter isn't a pure trickster-deity, the former ones are just great! I'm playing a Misadventurer of Brandobaris and have a player who's playing a priest of erevan. both are pure bliss- from the dm's point of view it's just sooooo easy to get them into adventures...

Wanderer, El can't ever be magister for the same reason my character can't though their strong enough to claim it. The reason is no being touched by the power of a god may claim the title.
Even Mystra's chosen can't be magister! They are not even allowed to fight the magister unless it's self defense, they can help the magister if they want but they can't hinder him(well the current magister is female)
P.s. Did you know that there was once a DROW MAGISTER! YES!!

Nobleknight.com offers offers both at relatively good prices... and as always, you can purchase th PDF versions of hard-to-obtain OOP FR 1e/2e resources from paizo.com for just $4US.

I just got a good lead from a friend saying that the book is at a local used book store. Well, I guess advertising that I am a DnD nerd helps. Even though I still think I'm cooler than every one I work with.

You're a Chosen of Mask, Wooly?
