Greetings

Is the location and or existence of spell hold the prison for mages in Waterdeep, canon in realms lore or is this something that escaped from that balder’s gate video games?

I'm pretty good on my Waterdhavian lore, but I've never heard of Spellhold.

spell hold in the bgII game applied to mages from athkatla in amn not waterdeep... so i think the correct question would be is it canon in terms of amnian lore.

Well, I remember Spellhold from BG II, but Lands of Intrigue doesn't seem to mention it. I've used it anyway in my campaign.

In the Shadows of the Avatar series (think that was the name of the series), didn't El or the lesser heroes in the story meet up with some undead lich (good one though) who was in a place called spellhold?

I think you're thinking of Spellguard.
