As this is not the most socially acceptable question it is a valid query of thought. In Faerun is their a spell or potion or something of some sorts that would allow you to not begin the process of pregnancy or is it just every time the deed is done that a baby will be conceived? If you were wondering no I do not have a sick and twisted mind I was only wondering if this means that there will defienetly be a child born to Cattie-brie and Drizzt! -Atlas

Soldiers fight, thieves steal, bards sing, wizards cast, sages think, assassins kill. Good or Evil we all have a job. So tell me this. What the hell are nobles and merchants for?

| There's the two herbs in the FRCS and divine magic can probably do the same. :) |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

I don't think anyone believes you to be sick and/or twisted for talking about contraception (you'd be surprised how many gamers I know who have the Book of Erotic Fantasy Sourcebook). The Forgotten Realms sourcebooks have been pretty vague on purpose about sex after all the problems D&D has had with the religious right wing. As for whether Cattie-brie & Drizzt WILL have a child or not is up to Bob Salvatore himself, there's no question about whether or not that Cattie-Brie HAS to concieve if the pair make love. After all, she and Wulfgar were obviously having it off when they were together but never had a child.
In the Realms, if a pair are a couple and they don't have children it is assumed one or the other is taking either Cassil, Nararoot or both. As far as I know, no author has EVER actually mentioned someone taking either. |

Many characters have intercourse though out history of the Realms, and children are not always concieved. As has already been indicated there are herbs to prevent a child being concieved official in the Realms. There is still the factor of chance based on menstral cycle (which is not discussed at all because of Code of Content (or whatever TSR called it) for 2nd Edition material, 1st Edition really did not do much with intercourse either, but named demons and other "Evil" content did result in protests that could have hurt the bottom line. From all indications WotC has losened the Code of Content a bit, but the financial concerns certainly do remain. Talking to much about sex, could effect US sales which is a major market for WotC. |
"Small beings can have small wisdom," the dragon said. "And small wise beings are better than small fools. Listen: Wisdom is caring for afterwards." "Caring for afterwards ...? Ker repeated this without understanding. "After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first."
