The plot has become defined now, and we know what the final confrontation will likely be. However, what bothers me is why the most powerful groups in the land pick a band of 3 strangers and 2 locals to charge into the lair of the greatest threat to their homeland. I'm hooked now and interested to see how this book will finish playing out. I've only read through 15, so I'm not sure what else falls into this block. |

The flashback chapter showing the lesson on Bladesinging was a welcome addition to the book. This added some good background and insight into the art. I see Faelyn is still blaming Taen's human side for his shortfall
Loved the scene in the wyvern cave! Well depicted fight and quite nasty too. It was quite nice to see known spells being fired off too (lightning bolt and acid arrow, I assume). It was pretty nasty when Taen got struck with the wyvern's spur!
It made me chuckle when Caven was sent back into the cave and emerged with the goblin between his jaws I felt quite sorry for the little chap, even moreso when he was charmed. Poor thing. |

The journey through the tunnels was great. I liked how they were all stood in darkness waiting. A lot of the time, when I read of the Underdark, it seems to loose the sense of being in pitch black... this wasn't one of those cases.
I've really warmed to Yurtz and how he is being so kind in helping Marissa, even though he is charmed...it's kinda sweet
Nice how the staff gave Marissa the spell to petrify the ogres with. Definately one hell of a powerful item!
Switching back to Yulda... nice scene! (in a nasty way) when she struck the Old One across the face, smashing his nose. And when it switched over to Fleshrender, who it said only killed for the taste of death, not out of necessity! |
