Lost Empires of Faerun, I believe, has the current info about Iolaum. :) |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

I don't think anyone knows whether Elminster is aware of Ioulaum's current form as an Elder Brain. I definitely hope that Ioulaum doesn't become novel fodder, as he is an interesting and engaging plot development for high-level campaigns in the Realms. As such, it's better that he remains as described in LEoF, allowing DMs to use him as they see fit in their campaigns.

Which is why I didn't give an answer to this. I figured only Ed and maybe a hanful of others might be able to answer this. |

Agreed.
I ran into a small group of "younger" Realms fan the other day at my local gaming store... and their topic of conversation was in fact... Ioulaum. The discussion went from his "coolness" factor to what type of Realms official NPCs they'd like to see Ioulaum do battle against.
I felt it was necessarily to "gently" remind them about what we've learned regarding Ioulaum in the past and what LEoF recently told us about him.
And that, is how it should remain.
