I'd be happy to rules audit/contribute to any possible articles, although a full adventure might take me just a little while.

I'd love to take you up on that Arivia... if and when any of my proper ideas for DRAGON submissions ever take more form than a few notes and scribbles on a piece of parchment.

The truth of the matter is... writing for DRAGON would take more time and care than it does for writing an article for the Compendium. I don't mean any disrespect to the Compendium or to anyone of us who have all contributed great material in the past... but I assume that writing for an actual inprint publication rather than an online fan-based compilation demands a great deal more work and effort. I'm sure George would agree, at least somewhat.

And with any article written for the "official D&D content" of DRAGON... I want to be sure that the article is the best that I can do. So that demands a great deal of personal development time, many drafts and many, many more rewrites.

That's pretty much the same for me as well .

With the current DRAGON articles seeming to almost always focus more on rules than lore... I'm kind of limited to what I can include in a submission article for DRAGON. I want to write something, but I don't want to have to tackle D&D rules as well.

There's that as well, and we've discussed that over IM's. :) Also, now that I'm more awake, I don't want to submit something that might have already been written about in a upcoming sourcebook or article, so again, I'm stuck wondering what to actually make into an article....

Aye... I've considered that.

In fact, just a few weeks ago I'd put together some initial ideas on diplomacy and courtlife in the Realms... and now we have Ed's exciting work on the subject in PoF .

Ha! I'm hardly the one to ask having a grand total of ... 1 ... article published in Dragon. Ever.

But yes, I think it is harder to write for Dragon or Dungeon than it is for the CC. The reason howvere IMHO is that the CC gives us the flexibility to write about topics that interest us and can have a lore/rules balance that suits a particular writer. For Dragon, I always suggest starting small. A new magic items or spells article set in the Realms with snuck in lore (ala Ed's old wands and daggers articles where the realmslore was important but only a few lines here and there) is the best place to start. It's certainly not out of the bounds of talent exhibited by writers here at Candlekeep.

Agreed.

Which is why I've tried to limit stats in every article I write for the CC (in fact, I don't think I've included any because I favor lore-based articles instead).

For me... that's why your own work on "Soargar's Legacy" works so well. My love of Impilturan lore aside... we find ourselves learning about intriguing weapons that are also supported by Realmslore that tells us a little about parts of Impiltur and its history. It's magic in every sense of the word.

If I ever get to the point where I will consider contributing something of mine for DRAGON... it'll likely be in a format similar to this.

Pazio announce a new FR Module for Dungeon 137 over at Enworld

James Jacob better start running cause I think George is going to try and kiss him!

James Jacobs: Check out issue #137 to see how we handle this. That issue has a Forgotten Realms adventure set in Impiltur and uses a fair amount of info from Unapproachable East.

Well, I may give him a smooch ... AFTER I've read the module. You see, there is little information on Impiltur in UE, so this could go anywhere and be anything ...
Then again, maybe it's a tie-in with the "Impiltur" article they've been promising in Dragon.

Agreed.

If the module connects with Impiltur lore yet to be published... that's actually more encouraging than seeing it rely on what was included in the paragraph for Impiltur in UE.

This is, however, hoping the article gets Impiltur "right"; I'd be slightly/very worried if it got handed in before CoR/CoV, and even more worried if they haven't touched on some of the older sources(like FR9, which contains important economic/trade route details). *shrugs*

James Jacobs speaks again about the Dungeon module

"It will be compatible with up-to-date Impiltur material. And yes, it would be cool to get the Impiltur article into Dragon at the same time this adventure comes out. Even if it doesn't work out that way, I've got access to the unpublished Impiltur article so it'll sync up with the information there. Also, Eric Boyd's graciously volunteerred to give the adventure the look-over too. So all in all, the adventure's in good hands"

and we now know who wrote the FR Dungeon module

"Yup; it's written by Jason Nelson, author of #113's FR adventure "Practical Magic."

No, it's not because I know the next city that Ed's submitted - and it's not in Impiltur.

As for the Impiltur adventure, I didn't get issue #113, what was "Practical Magic" like?

From memory

It was set in Marsember

Ed provided alot of stuff on Marsember for it

The Plot featured Aquatic undead and a kidnapped Wizard who knew how to make a certain magic item

The Villian was a Necromancer

Ahh, the one with Delthrin the Deadmaster. That was pretty good, I thought. I did buy that issue after all. Augurs well for his next effort in Impiltur. Cool - can't wait.
