Hi Everyone,
First off, I would like to say that the gaming community you are a part of has done absolute wonders in adding to the richness of this game. Its truly amazing how far RPGs have come, as well as the Forgotten Realms product line.
For me, travels have been long and my path has taken many turns. I am returning to the Realms after many years and find them much different and completely the same. Its all a matter of perspective. I started off in Gary Gygax's D&D and AD&D when I was about 10 years old, battling minotaurs in "B2: The Keep on the Borderlands" (wear talking early 80's here). I then matured in gaming and progressed to Greyhawk and other AD&D adventures. Then Ed Grennwood gave us the gift of Forgotten Realms and I was hooked. Through High School and on into my ealry adult life I goobled up every expansion box set and novel. I went in to the Army after High School and found other gamers amongst the other soldiers. We had a magical time of using our military knowledge and applying the small unit tactics in to our mercenary group by providing the good nations of the realms with a small, elite group of mid and high level adventurers, with the ability to infitrate their enemies and conduct surgical operations when their massive armies would either be ineffective or when the politics wouldn't allow for open warfare. We found that in a world of magic, monsters, and creativity, the tactics of our world didn't always apply, however we adjusted and came up with blended approaches to the uniqueness of the Realms. It migh be fun to brush the dust off these old PCs and see if they can still draw the bowstrings back.
So, I come back to the Realms after...ohhh...a ten year break and look forward to tasting the Corn Flakes again for the very first time. I am a bit old school, but am looking forward to learning of all the new developments of the characters and lands that Ed and others have been treating us to for all these years. Glad I kept all my books, but seems they've changed the rules again...guess I can put the 1st & 2nd edition rules back in the basement. Will be fun to talk it up with all of you!
By the way, while digging through my original FR set, I ran across a one-off newsletter I got in the mail when they first came out with the campaign...any of you have this?

Welcome to Candlekeep!
Feel free to ask any questions you may have... A lot of us have been Realms fans for years, and we know a thing or three about the setting. Plus, we've got some of the authors and creators here!
As for the rest of us, we are friendly, mostly harmless, and occasionally strange... Enjoy your stay! |

Welcome to Candlekeep.
I'm assuming you mean the "Secrets of the Sages" newsletter. If so, I've got a PDF version. Shame that concept never got off the ground.

Krash, I'll take a copy of that, if you don't mind. |
