I have a friend wanting to start a campaign around Tiamat (not really sure what kind of campaign) but he can't seem to find the information he needs such as friend/allie, foe and "goal." Can anyone tell me where he could find this information? Or does anyone know it?

I've searched through this site but couldn't really find any information, but then that's a lot to look through.

I would appreciate any help with this.

How current are your "official" sources? Tiamat in the Realms tends to be seen more as a part of the Untheric pantheon than as the dragon goddess of evil that opposes Bahamut. Not that she doesn't have draconic worshippers, or that she isn't trying to expand her influence. Your best bet on what Tiamat has done officially are regional descriptions of Chessenta and Unther, and anything that might talk about the Untheric Pantheon.

For generic information, I recommend the Draconomicon [3e], and Races of the Dragon [3e]. For Realms-related information, the best source is Powers & Pantheons [2e], although you might suspect that Dragons of Faerun (due out late summer) might have some informationa s well.

I would also suggest your friend check out the recently released supermodule, "Red Hand of Doom". I won't give spoilers, but his work may be complete. ;-)

I'd highly recommend this tome, as well. Her write-up in there is 4 or 5 pages long. Plus, that book is part of the trilogy of 2E deity books (the others being Faiths & Avatars, and Demihuman Deities), which are the best sources of info for the deities of the Realms. I consider them to be required resources, myself.

More non-FR-specific sources on Tiamat include the PS supplement On Hallowed Ground and the 2e Monster Mythology -- both of which I consider to be essential resources when adventuring outside the Realms.

some really good and new realmslore on her ancient history etc. can be found in the Candlekeep compendium Iv. I just read it this morning and it was very interesting. she ties in to the different ages of faerun and the creator races. uh the link is in The Sage's and Wooly's signature... as well as many other places on this site.

Indeed. Our own Brian R James, creator of the wonderful A Grand History of the Realms timeline, wrote an excellent article about the rise of dragons on Faerūn. There is some good lore there, including lore on Tiamat.

Your friend also may want to check out the "Cult of the Dragon" 2e suplement. On pages 61 and 62 it reveals some very interesting plots, including places and NPCs of power.

And that is a resource that is available for free on the Wizards downloads page.

Well then, I suggest you take a good look at the link Wooly provided above -- to the Wizards download page. It had several select 2e FR resources available for free that you can download. It'll greatly expanded your FR library for sure .

You might also want to check out the campaign journal "And Dragons Shall Rule ...", and it's supplements, found at this site.

Its a little on the longside, and is bound to have alot of stuff that is of no use to you or yours, but if your DM is in the mood for some reading, Tiamat, her Cult in the West, and also Sammaster and the Cult of the Dragon figure quite prominently.

Unfortunately, most of the band died in a sidetrack adventure and we've since placed DnD on hold for a time (in favour of some superhero rpging).

I'm running a solo campaign for a Kobold worshipper of Tiamat. I really haven't given much thought to what belief in Tiamat would involve, though.

There's a tiny bit of information about that in the novel The Alabaster Staff by Edward Bolme. Although I guess you could reach the same conclusions by checking out the various "religious" sourcebooks too

There is a rumour going around that I have found god. I think is unlikely because I have enough difficulty finding my keys, and there is empirical evidence that they exist.

The timeline in the "Adventuring" section of this forum -- http://www.candlekeep.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3595 -- advances a year or two further than in the link Alaundo provided. Also, I just dug out my notes and had some events planned for yet another year that never got posted anywhere. I think I'll dd them over there now.

By-the-by, thanks for the praise Alaundo! It was a very enjoyable, if not all that inspiring, campaign!

Most of the sourcebooks already mentioned should cover those details to some degree.

But since you seem unwilling to buy them, perhaps you could google Tiamat and read through some of the info posted online.

Hmm. If all you want is friend, foe, goals, I think that much of what's written in all of those supplements can be boiled down into a few words.

Friends: Evil dragons and dragon creatures

Foes: Bahamut, Gilgeam, and basically all the other faiths in
Faerun. She really hates all other gods. Some parts of
the Cult of the Dragon are friends, others are foes.

Goals: Expand her power, subvert other religions, destroy good
dragonkind (especially metallic dragons and Bahamut
worshippers).

Locations: Unther primarily, though she has some worshippers in other
parts of the world.

That's a pretty simple boiled down version of what's in F&P, F&A, The Alabaster Staff, Cult of the Dragon, without bringing in any new information. (For a more complex look, Red Hand of Doom and the upcoming Dragons of Faerun should have more info).

As mentioned above, i can recommend reading "the Alabaster Staff". It gives an OK view into the worship of Tiamat and you encounter some of her followers. It isnt much, but i would certainly say thet it is a beginning. Plus it is a good book... Good luck to your friend.

Always interesting what a little work with the search engine can do! Was looking for exactly these informations myself - friends, foes and goals of the church of Tiamat. Since this thread dates back half a year I have to ask:

Does anyone have to add anything new with a whole bunch of new books (like PoF or DoF) being out on the shelfs?

Oh my does Dragons of Faerun have information on this. Tiamat and Bahamut are both much more active at the moment. I don't want to ruin anything here, but suffice to say that at least the level of activity has changed, and the tactics, though Tiamat still pretty much hates the some people she always hated (i.e. everyone).

Until I do:
Any specific info in there or elsewhere about the relation Cult of the Dragon vs. Chruch of Tiamat?

The 2e Cult of the Dragon supplement contains a section on the Church of Tiamat as a "foe" of the Cult.

You can download it at WotC, as Wooly noted earlier. Here's the link again:- http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads
