According to the email, my FLGS got it in today. I'm going to have to hold off on it, though, because I've not got enough funding to get this and do everything else I need to do... Why did this have to come out right before Valentine's Day? |

Because statistically speaking, I'm betting Valentine's Day isn't as much of an impediment to our gaming bretheren. Before anyone shouts me down, let me point out my friend in my own gaming group, who didn't bat an eyelash over the fact that our next regular session was scheduled for the 14th, despite the fact that is wife is due to have a baby in two weeks . . .
Gotta love devoted gamers, lol. |

It's not a lack of devotion -- it's a lack of funds. My girlfriend will only tolerate so much... |

I don't know if anyone say this, but this is on the WOTC site:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20060202a
Some excerpts showing the general tack of the module and some of those "easier to run for the DM modifications" they talk about. |

There's more benefit to be received from a happy girlfriend than there is from a non-FR module.
Now, if it was FR-specific... |

Could be worse. Power of Faerun could have been out this month instead of next. |

Looks like a great module, based on a first read.
Takes you from 6-12.

Thanks Eric, looks like I'll be grabbing this then, run my players through it then right to CotSQ. Will have to do some adaptations, since the party is based in the North, but should be doable with some work. |

Eric, are you or someone else planning for "Realmsify" that adventure? I think I heard somewhere that this was first intended to be a Realms adventure... but I might be daydreaming... |

I believe Rich said it could very easily be dropped into the Great Dale area. |

Nope, Rich said it could easily drop in the Channath Vale area. That's down in the Shining South, between the Shaar and Halruaa.

Thanks Eric!
I was just about to ask where in FR this is best located, because I do remember reading that the designers had an FR location 'in mind' when doing the geography for this adventure.
At first blush, it looked like it was in the Shining South, near Lake Lhespen ("Lake Rhestin" in the module) - looks like I was right. Cool!
It looks pretty good on my first skim-through. |

Given the modules focus on Dragons in General and Tiamat in particular I reckon Unther, The North East Moonsea or even Chessenta would have made better Realms locations for Red Hand of doom |

Thanks Eric, I knew it was an area that wasn't used much, just aimed at the wrong direction. |

Well met
I have just managed to pick up this tome and intend to spend more time with it over the next week or so.
We know already that Richard Baker stated that he fudged the module location to fit nicely into Chondath, but i'd be interested to collate information from everyone who is running\intending to run this module and has made changes to fit it into the Realms. We could then collate a "Using <generic module name> in the Realms" style articles to aid other DM's
Please post thy comments etc. herein, or feel free to email\PM me. |

Channath Vale, not Chondath.
It lies between the Shaar and Halruaa, east of the Wyrmbones. The map is an exact match.

Ah the location is unfortunate for me. I plan to run Sons of Gruumsh in my next campaign and was hoping to transition from that to Red Hand of Doom but it may be tough to find a reason for the low-mid level adventurers to travel to the opposite end of Faerun.
I guess I'll have to find a new module or try to adapt this one. Athough I find my free-time that could be used adapting modules runs thinner and thinner by the day. |

CoB, there are always gates . . . or cursed teleporting magic items. Railroading? Faerun has no railroads! |

You could have them find some item that only a sage in Channath Vale could identify... Or there could be a item, person, or relic they have to escort to a temple in Channath Vale... |

I'll probably end up using something like this and just going with it anyway because I don't have a ton of time to write or adapt do to grad school and a baby on the way .
(and NO, I'm not considering Fzoul for a name..... it's a girl, so Scyllua is an option though) -obviously joking...at least I hope it's obvious! |

You guys keep joking about this, and I keep telling you . . . my friend named his son Tanis . . . he has another one on the way, and we have been playing FR for a year now, so I'm hoping for a more Torillian name this time. Not sure how his wife feels about that though. |

If you've got access to the Planar Handbook, a greater gate compass set to go somewhere already is a great idea and one that works well without the players feeling railroaded. |
