Amazon.com has added "Darkvision" by Bruce Cordell to it's catalog. This book is part of the wizards series and is scheduled for release in September (according to Amazon).

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0786940174/qid=1138198412/sr=1-7/ref=sr_1_7/104-9863126-3936714?s=books&v=glance&n=283155

The other books in this series are:

Blackstaff, by Steven E. Schend
Bloodwalk, by James P. Davis (amazon has both of these listed for release in July, but I think that might be a mistake.)

From what I've heard they are the next "classes" line of Realms novel, similar to "Rogues" (Yellow Silk, Alabastor Staff, etc..) and "Fighters" (Master of Chains, Son of Thunder, etc..).

I have also heard that Blackstaff, a novel about Khelben will be one of these four novels.

I don't know how accurate this information is, but it is what I have heard and believe to be true.

Steven Schend is the author of Blackstaff. He announced it himself.

These novels are going to be class-specific novels set in the Realms, like the Priest and Rogues books.

Ad if you perform a search through the archives here at Candlekeep, you'll find the few tidbits Sage Schend has been able to reveal about the Blackstaff novel.

Bruce Cordell has already written Lady of poison for the priest series. I wonder if there will be some sort of crossover, at least to explain what kind of person the tattooed fighter was.

Let's hope Bruce does a better job with his next book (which I really, really do hope) .

Just a reminder of one of the rules in the Candlekeep Forum Code of Conduct (B.2, to be exact):

quote:
2. Be polite when reviewing any novels or products. If you didn’t like the novel, then fine, let the author know with constructive criticism, not by a barrage of abuse or slating the whole book in an aggressive manner. On the other hand, if you liked the book, then please say so, i’m sure the author would love to hear that his work was appreciated by you.

I've very much enjoyed getting the class novels...simply because there comes a point where just one more trilogy will kill a guy! Stand alones are an excellent way of breaking the rhythm (although you don't get to spend as much time with characters you really like...unless they appear later down the road in a...trilogy). Can't wait to find out who writer #4 is and what it will be called.

C'mon Wooly, you're completely overeating. Braveheart's comment was pretty tame, considering. It's not like he started saying that the author "sucks" or anything like that. It was a simple comment done in a non-derisive manner.

I didn't read the post myself, but if Wooly thought adding the reminder about the CoC was required, then that's good enough for me.

Just a further note... Remember fellow scribes, FR authors are taking time out of their own busy schedules to come here and interact with us. It's a delight for sure... and we should see it as a privilege and it should be cherished accordingly. We should try to extend to them every point of politeness and courtesy and have respect for what they are doing. I don't want to see the FR Novel section going the way of the WotC-Novel section.

Thank you .

I really respect Bruce's work, but I do think that a tidbit of honest and justified critcism would help him much more than some false praise.

Can we get off of the moderating subject? There was a post here that was not constructive criticism, a post which was removed by the poster. I did not say we could not offer constructive criticism. What I did was see what could have been the start of a round of author-bashing, and I was trying to forestall it. That's it. My post was not directed at Braveheart or anyone else in particular -- I was just trying to keep things from going in a bad direction.

It is over and done with. Perhaps we can get back to the original topic, now?

Yes . Darkvision: Is there any information on who will be the main character or where the novel will be set in?

Well met

Appearing on Amazon is basic information on the fourth, and final, book in the Wizards series - entitled Frostfell.

The book is to be written by Mark Sehestedt (Editor of the Eberron book line) and released in December.

Hi

Alaundo, are you sure that it isn't an Eberron novel :P ?

I don't know a thing of Eberon but found that.
From Wikipedia: Eberon: ... Frostfell is an unexplored land of ice in the north...

Hope you're not turning on Eberon side :P

According to the Frostburn sourcebook, 'Frostfell' is a term which refers to "any area - no matter how small (a single chamber within a dungeon) or how large (an entire plane) - dominated by a combination of ice, snow, and extreme cold, much like 'the underdark' references and endless variety of regions found deep underground."

Indeed, Lord Nemesm I did wonder. However, i'm assured that this is indeed the aforementioned FR tome from the Wizards series.

Maybe more light will be shed in time. I'll try and see if I can unearth more information. Wizards have been constantly tight-lipped throughout the naming of the Wizards series, for some reason.

I don't have my book with me, but isn't "Frostfell" also a spell in Frostburn? Basically a mini-ice age?

Hello-

On this note also - I clicked on the link to the Amazon.ca site - and then clicked on the author link. Seems he has a Eberron novel coming out in April. I had the thought from somewhere that in general they kept their authors in one world - I'm not sure where I have that thought from though...

Its not like Amazon has not made mistakes in the past. That adventure in the FR that is being speculated about elsewhere here - as I recall - is listed as 32 pages - AND a hardcover....

Alaundo is right - time will tell.....

I am collecting the D&D Minis. I would be more than willing to trade with people. You can send me a PM here with your email listed - and I can send you my minis list. Thanks!

Successfully traded with Xysma!

There is a long history of authors writing for more than one setting. Jean Rabe wrote an FR novel, but also a number of Dragonlance novels. Don Bassingthwaite writes for both FR and Eberron. A number of authors have written Greyhawk as well as other setting based novels. While I'm sure you have some authors that definitely prefer one setting over another, many are quite versatile in this regard.

Actually the April Eberron book is an anthology that he edited (as previously mentioned he is the line editor for Eberron).

Anyway, Mark has confirmed on an Eberron-related website that "Frostfell" is in fact the 4th book in the Wizards series set in the Forgotten Realms.

Whoops....looks like I started a new topic too soon!! Sorry guys!

Mark has been editing the Eberron books and has Tales of the Last War coming out next month. I THINK Frostfell is his first novel, though I can't be sure! Anyway, I'm looking forward to this series. Hopefully it's as good a series as The Fighters has been.

I think Wizards is trying to keep specific authors in specific realms. Baker, Bassingthwaite and Forbeck seem to be Eberron authors now, while Bolme, De Bie, Kemp, Lebow and Smedman, among others, remain in the Realms.

This is a good thing...especially if you are a fan of all these guys (and gals)!
