Does anybody think that anything will come out of Alustriel's crush on Drizzt? Or will he "stay" with Cattie-brie?
I always thought that Alustriel would be a better match for Drizzt, what with his long life and her all-but-eternal one....

To be honest, I would be disappoited if that came to pass. Too much designer/author manipulation. And it could very well turn into a Hollywood style marriage, in other words the disposable type of marriage.

A definite NO vote from my side if there would be a poll.

I think that he'll probably "stay" with Catti-brie unless it gets complicated now that Wulfgar is back. I might be a little behind on what's happening however, since I haven't read the Thousand Orcs yet.

I disagree. I think Alustriel and Drizzt would be a good match. Cattie-brie is too much of the typical elf-human love lost due to human short life spans saga. I like a couple that can live centuries together. OK now for the spoiler. ( the weak hearted turn their heads now, and close their eyes.

A Thousand Orcs - Cattie-brie is over Drizzt. It is not working. But then again, neither is the Silver Sister romance.

I don't know...I thought that Thousand Orcs showed the two of them solidifying their relationship.....

I still think Alustriel would be better for him...no "baggage"...

My latest Realms-based short story, about a bard, a paladin of Lathander and the letter of the law, Debts Repaid. It takes place before the "shattering" and gives the bard Arion a last gasp before he plunges into the present.http://candlekeep.com/campaign/logs/log-debts.htm

Oh, plus I think that it would simply be more INTERESTING...I'm kind of sick of Drizzt and Catti-brie going up on hilltops and having abiguous conversations about their relations...it has gotten a bit stale...I think that if they TRULY got together now, there will have been too much build up....

However, a relationship with Alustriel would be something new and interesting that could re-light fires that are missing in recent Drizzt books...

I am glad I am not the only one who has found the Drizzt lacking of late. A thousand orcs was closer to the old Salvatore style, and it is encouraging.

I don't know Dragon...

I didn't much care for Thousand Orcs...

I thought that the plot was terribly weak (the old Dragonlance-style of storytelling: "Uh.....let's go kill things."), and the villains had absolutely no exposition to make them seem intimidating at all...plus nothing really intriguing happened...nothing worth mentioning....

I thought that Sea of Swords was much better....but as I have said before, there is oft method to Salvatore's madness....I have yet to run from the faith.......

Careful! Not only is the "Doje" a big fan of Dragonlance (don't ask me why) but he's also fond of that sort of storytelling . . . . blood, gore, etc.

Hell hath no fury like all of Candlekeep rising in defense of one of its own.

I don't remember that being the case, I need to read it again and check. I think some time apart will do their relationship some good, though. As for Alustrial and Drizzt, I'm not sure they're compatible romantically. A relationship with Alustrial would be like the relationship between Elminster and the Simbul ('open'). I get the impression that Drizzt wouldn't like that.

DOJ's eyes glitter and gleam at the thought of blood, gore, and plenty of death. DOJ shrugs his shoulders.

I am a savage at heart. And I don't think a villan necessarily needs to be overly developed to make a good story as long as the rest of the story can support it.

ArionElenim:

I agree with all your reasons. Salvatore is mostly an entertaining writer, but he is now in Stephen King Mode. All he has to do is crank out 300 pages of excrutiatingly detailed acounts of Drizzt's fighting style and how many pounds of "snarling panther" smash into his foes, and his fans will buy it. All it takes is his *name*, for chrissakes. Isn't there a new series of books written by *other authors* called "R.A. Salvatore's City of the Spider Queen" (or something like that)? I for one have had my fill of Menzoberranzan.

I finished "The Thousand Orcs" a few weeks ago, and I can't remember anything about it other than the cover art. I can remember, superficially at least, a lot of what happened in most of the other books.

I liked "Sea of Swords" best, too, but I think the Cadderly books are better, as a group, than the Drizzt books.
