I've been running a two year long elven campaign and now I'm having some seriuos doubts.
The three characters are 17lev and they are really trying now to help elves to improve their situation in faerun. I now have two situation where I'm willing to ask help: one elf is an evereskan moon elf and as an elf warrior-mage she wants to help the city's army, training new troops and giving equipment; the first problem is that I don't know how evereska's army is now, 'cause I've not read the novels! Could someone help me?

The other problem is that queen Amlaruil has invited them to Evermeet to discuss important issue. They have obviuosly accepted such a prestigous invitation. The problem is that I have the 2ed "Elves of Evermeet" but I've not read the novels about what recently happened... How should I change my lore on Evermeet?

Thank you very much!

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the novels. However, if you're really interested in what happened in the novels, I've found the Novels forums on these boards great for getting plot summaries without having to wade through a book (not that I have anything against the FR novels, per se; I actually don't like fantasy fiction that much).

I reckon one of the most important things an elf could do is to slay the Elder Elemental Evil, Ityak-Ortheel, on its home plane while also performing a high magic ritual that will allow all the elf spirits that it has devoured to be set free to pass on to Arvandor.

The party would have to a number of things first:

- recover the high magic ritual from some elven ruin such as Myth Drannor;
- uncover lore about Ityak-Ortheel so that they can properly prepare themselves for the battle ahead (the 2E accessory Cormanthyr refers to an ancient elven lore library that was destroyed by a meteor strike [IIRC] located near the present-day Ashabenford: perhaps the knowledge the party requires is in a kiira lore gem in the underground ruins of the library... which is currently being explored by phaerimm);
- locate Ityak-Ortheel (perhaps they will need to travel to the Unapproachable East to use a portal in an ancient ruin of Narfell).

Anyway, this might prove to be a really meaningful campaign: the salvation of elven spirits that would otherwise spend an eternity in the Abyss!

Best
E

Another thing to think about is when your campaign is set. If it's anywhere before about 1370 DR, you don't really have to worry about the novels. IIRC, Evermeet's invasion isn't until 1370, Return of the Archwizards is somewhere around 1371-2, and War of the Spider Queen and Last Mythal are 1373-4. I could find the exact dates, but it's too early for that.

Something else you could do is get A Grand History of the Realms (a free pdf timeline of everything that's happened in all the sourcebooks and novels - ask Sage, he keeps promoting it). It would have specific dates for all of these things.

Also, if you're looking for that lost vault (Uvraeven, sp?), check out both Cormanthyr and Fall of Myth Drannor, since there are hints about it in both. you need to find five seals to open the doors to the greatest store of magic lore on Faerun, but they're scattered and hidden carefully by a very determined High Mage, so best of luck.

Doggedly converting 3e back to what D&D should be...
Sigh... And now 4e as well.

Or I -- who was likely among the first scribes here to route people to that timeline, before it was hosted here -- could beat Sage to the punch and post the link. I think I shall do that!

Thanks Wooly. I knew having a giant space hamster around would come in useful eventually...

Thank you!
So now, when they will go to Evermeet, they will find ruins where the towers of Sun and Moon once where... sad.
