I ask the help of you all Faerunian sages about a simple question but a tricky one!
I have this Bedine Character all made up and ready to enter the action, but I would like it to have a Bedine Name! The name I would like to give him would be a translation of the following phrase:
"Son of the Scorched Stone(or Rock!!)"
Is it possible to translate this to the Bedine language, and if so can someone help me with the translation! I'm hoping the name get's to be cool!

| Well I can not find such with any ease. You are basically seeking a cultural answer that can not be well addressed in real world, and FR is not real so language does not have to follow real world stucture. |

I see Kentinal, Simply saying I should make it up...
I just thought that perhaps the Bedine was the use of some Muslim Language adapted to the FR
Sorry about the Question, I just had to try! Or perhaps some Fan as actually edited an Alfabet who knows! Anyway thanks Kentinal

| Well I did find Midani citied as a language that Bedines use, but even that might be subject to translitiration problems. I am sure there exist translators that could give you a quick answer in arabic, persian or other languages spoken in the real world region that you speak of. I would not be surprised if RW would be used as a base for FR desert nomad language. I just do not know, nor can find any quick language translator for even stone, though I could keep trying. Making up something likely a far quicker solution then waiting for someone with more knowledge might be able to offer a far better answer then what I have found so far. |

| FR13 Anauroch contains a short lexicon of the Bedine tongue. I woudn't try playing a Bedine character without FR13. |

Just for simplicity.
Bedine can be given Arabic-style names.
Just like Shou can be given Chinese, Wa given Japanese, the Horde given Mongul/Hungarian, Mulhorandi given Egyptian, Chessenta given Babylonian names.
As much as we hate to drag Real World stuff into the Realms, these do for the most part fit. |

| Greek works of Chessenta as well, and Babylonian works for Unther, but yeah, if you can look up some Arabic names it should work fine. |

In Arabic, "son of" is Ibn
stone is al hagarat
rock is al sakharat (where the kh is pronounced as a hard "h" or like the "ch" in Bach)
scorched is lafaha or shayat
to be burnt is istala
I would go with Ibn Al Hagarat Istala
or Ibn Al Sakharat Shayat
I am probably mangling my Arabic, it has been 15 years since I took it in college. |

So what you are saying is that instead of "Son of the Scorched Rock" you may be saying "That Hot Rock is my son"?
I wouldn't be too worried about it, since apparently Al-Qadim, which the designers meant to mean "old" as in "ancient" actually means "old" as in, "gone bad" such as, "This milk is old." |
